    New Tank: dungeon etiquette tips

I've just started the road to 50 with both Gladiator and Marauder...
after leveling up all the other classes, it's nice having a change of role ( not to mention, no moar infinite queue time)

I'm still learning the way of the good tank, but I use my mistake as a way to improve my tanking skill, and I quite enjoy it (mostly with the Marauder, dat Overpower is pretty )

yesterday, I jumped in the DR Low, and I got a Sastasha party in progress.
they were stuck after the first "boss"...
we start clearing the trash, clear the second "boss", and we get to the last room, before the final fight....
I pull the first two groups of pirates, we kill them, and then I proceed to pull the other pirates in the room...
at some point, I notice the CNJ yelling at me "stop killing all the mobs!!!"
I didn't immediatly understand that sentence, so I answered "why?"
the answer was "we want to finish!!!!"

    ....well.
we still have 60 minutes left to end the dungeon, that means you didn't even wait that long before I joined, and aside from that, I pulled like 5 mobs more compared to the "normal" run... WHY THAN ANGRY.
I'm low level. I need exp. I need to learn how to play my job. the same things the other 3 person in the party need, since we were all around level 20ish...
is it THAT bad to to clear all the mobs in a room?
I'm not speedrunning, I'm not losing aggro... what is the problem? @__@
shoul I had said "I'm gonna pull and proceed to kill everything that breathes in here" when I joined? >_>

or be polite at the start and ask, "speedrun or full", if no one replies, do what you want, as you said your leveling your tanks so getting as much xp as possible is important, and since your in the "learning phase" every possible variance of 3-4-5 mobs you have to keep aggro on helps you rule the world... or keep the healer alive

the fact that she told me to "stop killing" while the last mob was getting killed kinda riuned the point xD
but, well, I'll keep that in mind

as a DSP or a Healer, I've never had any problem with people wanting to clear all the mobs, or just slowing things down...
even if I was in full 110 gear doing Tam Tara xD

I disagree with the above post that stated you should as if its a "speed run or full". I believe speed runs should be reserved for preformed parties, not the DF. The assumption should always be its a full run if you are using the DF (especially for low level content). Following this simple guideline would solve many problems new payers have with learning dungeons as vets tend to want to run through everything like they are being chased by the devil.

I say kill those mobs and get that xp! I know I always appreciate the extra when leveling.

Doesn't sound like you did anything wrong really, I mean, poor DPS has to queue for 30-60 minutes at times, I'm sure they wanted the exp too.

You don't know how many DPS have said that to me whenever I was in duty finder for a low level dungeon as a tank. I personally liked to do full runs for the extra experience but sometimes people wanted to go fast and so we went fast. I think there was only one time I did a speed run of a dungeon when they said they were fine with either way was when I started feeling sick shortly after the first boss in Longstop.

That's crazy, low level DPS wanting speedruns kind of makes me think they underestimated the wait time for their queues and have to get off the game soon

My fiancee is the tank between us at the moment; his way of doing things in Low Level is to clear all the trash in main path and through MOST of the paths to coffers. (DD is the only one so far we've not hit every coffer in a dungeon) If we've had issues on a boss, he'll pull less so we can have extra time on bosses that are harder (or we expect the new player to have more problems with). Just remember though, while most people leveling want the Full Clear; they're use to not getting it, or they've had someone try to full clear in a party that shouldn't have and have failed the duty (I actually had this happen while in a in low level farming myth before patch as I was only one who'd done the content)
Its a balancing act, one that does take time to master.

A blue mage must wrest her strength and vitality from her enemies. Show me your hunger for unrivaled power! This is the only guidance I shall give you."

Your the tank so essentially you call the shots. If someone doesn\\'t like the fact that your doing full clear, they can leave. More xp for those that need it and 2 extra minutes to get it far outweighs the impatience of those who treat this game as a chore rather than an experience.
In the end it\\'s these troublemaking players that set off a powderkeg of infighting that in the end just causes even more time delays.

You didn't do anything wrong here. As a Lvl 50 tank, whenever I'm in a low-level dungeon (helping a friend, Relic quest, etc.), I will take a look at my party and their gear to decide how to proceed. Are they all level-synced down from 50 wearing High Allagan gear? No reason to take anything other than the quickest route. Am I with a friend who needs the XP, or are there a couple members who aren't level-synced / have n00b gear? Then I'll take the long way through. And if anyone reacts with the kind of sudden vitriol you received, I would just explain my reasoning. I always try to benefit the majority.
