    class/job detalied info?

I'm new to the game and was wondering where to get more detailed info regarding classes, races, jobs, crafting, etc. . .

I know there is Lodestone but I seem to be missing where all the detailed info is?

For instance. . .I'm playing an Archer. . .what traits do I want to emphasize? I'm assuming Dexterity as opposed to strength, right?

What profession/craft goes well with Archer?

These types of questions can be answered if I had somewhere to go to read up on my class.

Is there such a place? Maybe a fansite or another 3rd party FFXIV ARR vendor?

    Any info would be appreciated.

For Archers you'll want to put all of your attribute points into Dexterity
Carpenter, leatherworker and Botanist are good crafter and gatherer classes to level with your archer (carpenters make your bows, leatherworker your armor and botanists gather the wood)

Looking up individual abilities doesn't necessarily explain the class' strengths, so...

    Tank classes:
Gladiator (becomes Paladin, VIT) is a fairly straightforward tanking class that is recommended for those new to tanking, and uses its MP in its strategies. It has the advantange of the highest raw defensive stats, a number of amazing defensive cooldowns, and great single target aggro control.
Marauder (becomes Warrior, VIT/STR) is a little more difficult to play early due to more positional reliance, and it later gains a unique resource called Wrath. It has the advantage of high damage output for a tank, unmatched raw HP, and solid group aggro generation, but lacks Gladiator's raw damage mitigation.

    Damage classes:
Lancer (becomes Dragoon, STR) is a melee damage dealer whose durability is second only to true tanks. A simple class to learn early and recommended for someone wanting to learn melee DPS. Later, Lancers will be weaving jumps in the middle of their combos, bouncing around the battlefield with precision - or reckless abandon.
Pugilist (becomes Monk, STR) is a melee damage dealer with unique emphasis on fluid combos over pre-determined ones, accelerating damage in prolonged fights/staying in combat as much as possible, and a heavy emphasis on positioning to get damage bonuses. It has the highest DPS potential on a single target in the game, but suffers in AoE or when forced to stop attacking for too long.
Rogue (becomes Ninja, DEX) is a melee who uniquely use DEX to determine the damage of their quick and speedy attacks. While their basic rotation is simple, they get a number of unique abilities, including stealth. Later, they get Ninjutsu - manually weaved spells on their own cooldowns with a huge variety of combinations and effects that you'll need to work to learn in order to really maximize their skills.
Archer (becomes Bard, DEX) is a ranged attacker who is very simple to play and generally recommended for newcomers. Their base DPS is not necessarily the highest, but they never have to stop attacking due to range or movement. They are the only physical characters who don't rely on fixed combos, but rather rely on maintaining DoTs and taking advantage of % activation effects opportunistically. They also have skills that can restore their allies' resources (TP/MP), making them valued for difficult content.
Thaumaturge (becomes Black Mage, INT) is a ranged caster who runs on MP, but treats it completely different from any other caster. They swap between an MP-regenerative Ice mode and high-damage Fire mode while assaulting enemies, and have unmatched AoE and incredible raw burst damage if they need it. However, being a squishy caster means having to move, and they need to minimize their movement as they can't cast while moving.
Arcanist (becomes Summoner, INT) is a ranged caster unique for the presence of their pets. The pets will assist you on offense or defense, while you focus on your damage, which is largely loaded into Damage Over Time effects. They have limited self sustain (enough to make soloing a breeze, especially with their pet's help), and also the only in-combat revive not on a healer class. That said, they're not easy to master - high level Summoner play involves careful pet management to really maximize their effectiveness.

    Healer classes:
Conjurer (becomes White Mage, MND/PIE) is a dedicated healer class with very little offensive options (though Cleric Stance allows you to fight well enough). Of the two healers, its strengths are the variety of healing spells available to it, a number of healing related cooldowns to amplify their effecitiveness, regenerative effects, and raw HP restoration. It does, however, have to be much more careful with its MP than Scholar, and lacks the powerful mid-combat mitigation tools.
Scholar (MND) is unique as an offshoot from Arcanist, only available once you get Arcanist to 30. It keeps the pet management of Arcanist, giving you healer pets who can assist you in your job. Your advantages are healing spells that also pre-empetively block additional incoming damage, the ability to heal two people simultaneously via pet control, and near endless MP. You do have to take care to control your pet carefully though, and you lack the mass, raw burst healing capabilities of the White Mage.

You cannot start as a ROG but have to start as another class and then switch to it. At level 10, you gain the ability to switch to other classes. To unlock a new class, you have to go to their guild and do the quest offered by their guild receptionist. However, you cannot use the airship to travel between cities until you finish a level 15 Main Story Quest, so it can be hard to unlock classes whose guilds are in other cities until then. I recommend sticking with ARC until you get the ability to use the airship, and then heading to Limsa to unlock ROG.

Here are where the various guilds are located:

    DoW/DoM (combat classes):

    Gridania
    - Archer (ARC - DPS)
    - Lancer (LNC - DPS)
    - Conjurer (CNJ - Healer)

    Limsa
    - Marauder (MRD - Tank)
    - Rogue (ROG - DPS)
    - Arcanist (ACN - DPS, but can become SMN (DPS) or SCH (Healer))

    Ul'dah
    - Gladiator (GLD - Tank)
    - Thaumaturge (THM - DPS)
    - Pugilist (PUG - DPS)

    DoH (crafter classes)

    Gridania
    - Carpenter (CRP)
    - Leatherworker (LTW)

    Limsa
    - Culinarian (CUL)
    - Armeror (ARM)
    - Blacksmith (BSM)

    Ul'dah
    - Goldsmith (GSM)
    - Weaver (WVR)
    - Alchemist (ALC)

    DoL (gatherer classes)

    Gridania
    - Botanist (BTN)

    Limsa
    - Fisher (FSH)

    Ul'dah
    - Miner (MIN)
