Well, if you are getting spammed to death by RMT tells, the other player will be too. Chances are he will just assume his tell got lost in the sea of spam. That's logical thinking about why some servers could be quieter from an RMT perspective, whereas I'm getting hit by so many I'm too furious to play the game right now. It's bad enough I was getting about one a minute when I logged off, having to go unblacklist people to reblacklist them is an insult to my time.
Turning off /tells as one person suggested is not an option for me because I don't want people to think I'm ignoring them when I'm clearly not AFK.
Random person: "Hey awesome Birdliege bow, I've never seen one of those before!"
Me:
Random person: "How many Frontlines instances did it take you to get that gear?"
Me:
Random person: Thinking to themself- wow what an ____, he won't even acknowledge that I said anything.
If you're seeing a lot of RMT tells, a lot of people on your server obviously are buying gil.
You don't open up a shoe store in a community that has no feet.....
the frequency is up, i think its about time for the dev team to step in again
and take new messures, /away just isnt cutting it
Tonberry is a JP server, hence not so many Tonberry players speak English. OR maybe it's japanese people's ethics that prevent them to buy Gil.
It seems to be quiet on Chaos DataCenter as well (EU servers)... Maybe because half of the players barely speak English? Or maybe because we're still struck by that goddamn crisis thanks to USA.
I'm not surprised to see all those US servers players complaining about RMT tbh
^ This. For ex, the Wedding Wristlets are barely sold on my server. Never see a shout for it. Barely one or two PF advertising it. Never saw anyone asking to buy those for Gil either. Same for Dyes.

If your server often has a character creation lock you get less spam because it's harder for poor little "Alkjlkj Jkhkjghkj" to be created.
Haven't noticed a change on Balmung.
I've noticed increased volume of RMT tells on Gilgamesh. I figured it was due to RMT wanting to cash in on the holidays.
When the FFXI inflation crisis happened, it was due to massive gil sales in December and January. I doubt anything similar will happen here. SE is much more alert about RMT than they were back then - the absurd devaluation of gil in such a short space of time was WHY the RMT task force was created; prior to that event SE was very hands-off regarding RMT.
Also different in this game is the fact that there's very few things that gil can be spent on that aren't glamour and fluff; in FFXI, there was plenty of expensive gear that could be bought that had real combat value (Scorpion Harness, Peacock Charm, Noble's Tunic, for example). The pressure to turn to RMT to keep up with other players is MUCH lower here.
Doesn't change the fact that RMT love to use the holidays to make a quick buck!
I get about 1-2 per night, however my wife doesn't get any.
More to the point, I find blocking them doesn't help. They seem to create an account, use it for a few hours or so, then reroll and use a new name, repeat.
Also, I find if I'm consantly in and out of Duties, I don't notice the spam, but if I spend a lot of time crafting etc, then it gets overwhelming.
