Save the Queen is a sword in FFIX.

They use different names for different weapons.

Going back to the lore thing, that is currently missing. I think it would have been awesome and more engaging if they would have included back story pertaining to the brave that wielded the weapon. How they came into the weapon, grew with it in power, etc.. Begin the quest with them doing something and stuff happening, cut it short with suspense. You get the rest of the story for that part of the Zodiac progression on completion of that stage. That would have been cool. Each weapon had a brave, each would have it's own stories.

Just my 2g though.

Each Final Fantasy has a different take on the series' reoccurring elements.

I hear you. Might add that one's frame of reference also matters.

This does not take away the fact that some things are just a tad odd. When ragnarok is a sword 90% of the time, it catches people by unpleasant surprise.

The different take on series' reoccurring elements can be neglected. Why do all races have the exact same movement animations as their FFXI "counter parts"? Yet they are not at all the same race (according to SE). It gets frustrating when they randomly decide what will be different (DRK a tank for example. Might add that I love it, but I understand people are surprised).

Some things just work better, faster, easier for developers at a certain time. The "different take" is a nice, political explanation SE gives us to hide behind.
