Choosing a server and planning ahead help

So i just got the game and am creating my account when i noticed that I you cannot change servers once you create a character. With a plethora of servers to choose from and each with varying levels of activity, I am having a hard time choosing and need some help. In addition, I have several friends who will be getting the game and joining the community once the PS3 version is released, and I definitely want to be able to show off my rank 50 main character when they join. I know that the ps3 and PC versions will be fully compatible, but does anyone know if they will have to add servers upon the PS3 release, thus making us unable to play together, or will they simply join our existing servers. Is there any hint of a sever merger or even a character transfer function coming down the road?

Any help would be much appreciated. What server should i choose?!

Well, I'm on Besaid, has a fairly good community, don't usually see too many squabbles. Markets are a bit overpriced for some reason though.

As for the PS3 version, from what I know, they will be on the same servers as us.

I went for Besaid server. Since it's also the "unofficial roleplaying" server, I figured I can do that in my spare time, but in my main time, I'll be leveling up, questing (lol, one day), and crafting. So far, it's worked out great!

I'd give the advise of maybe looking into a less populated server. There's no real way to tell for sure, but on PC launch there were some servers that became full very fast and locked because of it. There's the possibility that maybe it might happen again during the PS3 launch and your friends might have a delay on getting on the server you chose.

Otherwise pick what you feel like going for, or find out what servers seem to have a better population for what time zone/country you're in.

Not sure I'd put too much stock in that list seeing as those other two LSes listed are dead and as far as I am aware (being on Fabul since the start) we're not a LGBT server.

I can only say something about my server. Mysidia is highly populated at the moment, has a nice mix of population from both the US, Europe and Japan, and I rarely see some public situation that I would define unpleasant (actually, almost never).
I can't remember the last time I heard someone whining and bashing the game in shout, which is good.

It also doesn't host any unofficial national community, so you won't be spammed by shouts in french, italian, german or whatever other language (besides Japanese, which is inevitable) you happen not to understand.
Might be a matter of personal taste, but I tend to avoid those like the plague (including the one of my own nation, actually, them more than anyone else).

That means it is what I would consider a good server to be in.
