So don't worry about it. It is not possible to see directly whether someone has several characters. I just find it funny that the other day someone in a raid had the same name as a friend of mine. But since she just played it couldn't be an alt

That's exactly what happened. I looked at the Lodestone for the name and I found several people with that name. Hence my guess that the person has several characters :3

In fairness, from the looks of it, character has similar name to old Star Trek: TNG character, Deanna Troi. So, little trickier to assume alts.
