I played FFXI from 2004..to..2012 I think. Yeah there was more to do but harder to get people for it. But people were also different, though I wonder it is because we were all forced to deal with each other for 10hours a day. Then again, those long grinding sessions paved the way for a lot of deep strong friendships. I can see why you feel that way(out of habit I still avoid aggroing mobs like the plague). Friends ALWAYS made and break any online game. Sure you can play 'solo' for awhile(aka playing with random strangers you don't know, that you don't click with, etc) but at the end of the day, you really enjoyed half of your day.

I think you just summed up the fun and chaos that was FF11, you went though hell, fought ever step of the way, every level, every piece of high end gear (always regretted never getting a black belt for my monk) but you made friends on the way, and in the end, you look and suddenly 5-7 hours passed and sometimes you have new friends on your list, nothing against XIV, but XI was something else.

You are a 11 veteran! Yeah sadly everyone I find in 14 has a very poor mindset and wants so badly to rush through everything, when in reality, there isn't that much to go through, except a mindless grind for currency. I enjoyed the players in 11 so much more, the game itself had more depth than 14 has, but that doesn't mean that the game might not be bad a few years from now. I am tempted to go back to 11, but eh, might as well give this a shot for now. The words that come to mind when I think of 14 is: Pretty graphics, erpers, quick content and boring.

Occasionally I go back but it no longer than a week usually. I got a 90SCH. Yeah people rush(made it hard to learn how to tank) I just deal with it.
When I think of 14 I think: outdated server equipment, selfish isolating environment, glamfest, frustrating, lonely.
