Goals for the marriage union: Already went through gold EB. Gear is not an object. I'd like to make a new friend, perhaps something more?

I'll be honest with you, even with the person I did marry, I had my doubts about marrying them (I didn't feel they'd gotten to know me fully). So if the person I responded to even talked to me (for all you know, she might have blocked me on sight, before I even had chance to send a message), it would have been a slow process.

It's also worth noting that I find it easier to get on with women than men, and by moving to Balmung I'd be leaving all my friends behind (including 2 IRL friends), and moving to somewhere where I'd have 1 friend (who isn't an IRL friend). So even if the marriage thing didn't work out, it's a chance to make new friends, and to learn from the past.

Of course, all that was under the assumption that I would enjoy the game after my hiatus. After a 2 week break, I logged in yesterday to find that I don't actually enjoy FFXIV anymore so am having to rescind my offer based on that.
