Considering this statement, I really support the implementation of a Facepalm emoticon in these forums.
The reason parsers are against the ToS is not "cheating" or "easy wins". It's because SE thinks that people who are told how bad they are will unsubscribe. They actually think they could create a Wildstar & Cuddly Evenings Online hybrid where everyone is happy. The problem is, that the typical CEO (player) wants to achieve more than he can handle. Which means they will play in the wrong league and blame everyone else for their shortcomings. Just not themselves. And if someone actually points that out....well, that's harassment, since the guy who just wiped 7 other people for over an hour suddenly feels discomfort.
Why do people who don't care about their DPS even need Shiva Ex and higher equip? They really don't. But they want them regardless. If so, I think it's legitimate to demand them to improve.
Also: I don't give a damn about a ToS which doesn't allow me to read my own data stream.
2nd part:
So while the typical CEO (player) is protected by SE, people who actually like to play on a higher level, are not. I DO feel discomfort as well, when people with abyssmal DPS join a raid. I DO feel discomfort as well, when people with the movement skills of a stone destroy every hope of bringing down an encounter.
Who protects me from that? I do it myself. By not playing with such people. And how do I get the knowledge about that? By monitoring their movement and their DPS. So, why would it be allowed to kick someone over their broken legs, but not because their arms are tied to their back?
Can you link where this is stated? Not saying you're wrong... I'd just like to see what's been said about the use of parsers.
It seems people are afraid of knowing the truth about their performance here, the same way they would shy away from asking a girl out at middle school LOL
Parsers are only "illegal" because the TOS, like every TOS, is very broad and puts it in those words "you can't use third party applications" which is just a preventive mean for them to disallow all kind of possible cheating or botting devices.
Parsers are not hacking, cheating or botting. They are just a mean for people who want to improve to see their performance evolution.
The whole "I got bullied because I was a baddie wiping others with my lower than a tank dps" propaganda needs to stop.

there's no link :b. they're saying that's the real reason why parsers are against the tos.
i think parsers should be allowed. most people that care use them anyways and the people that didn't before might have wanted to but they're on consoles. the people that complain about possibly maybe getting harassed still won't use them and they can form their own little club of people that don't use them because the outside world might be dangerous and filled with truths.

Here's the ToS:
2.1 Cheating and Botting. You may not create or use any unauthorized cheats, bots, automation software, hacks, mods or any other unauthorized software or hardware designed to modify the Game and gameplay. In addition, you may not take advantage of game system bugs and exploits during gameplay.
A parser is not a hack, mod, bot, automation software or cheat. It's just a tool that reads a log file, which is saved on your PC. You can open the log file at any time and sum up your damage with a calculator. The only thing the parser does is spewing out the numbers in real time. Actually I think the whole "Parsers are against the ToS" stuff is made up by parser-enemies.
There's a line that'd fit for that:
2.5 Data Mining. You may not intercept, mine or otherwise collect information from the Game using unauthorized third party software.
But that'd mean that you could be banned for opening the log files in notepad. That's...well. No.
Thanks, I find myself agreeing with you, parsers don't seem to fall into the cheating category at all.
As for data mining, it's a bit of a stretch to call it 'mining' when all you are doing is reding a log file. Although I guess that's where they'd get you if they wanted to.
