i would like to think that lights was easier. You just wanna complain about everything, don't ya? This segment of the relic quest is probably one of the easiest after Zenith (and the original relic quest given today's gear). Without that RNG people literally would've been done within maybe 8 hours of the patch going live. And it's still nothing compared to what Atma was pre-nerf - I'm currently on the somewhat unlucky side (at least 6 hours of dungeons each day since launch of the quests and only 5/16 drops) and I'm still enjoying this far more than Nexus light grinding.
And "50+ posts and 1000+ comments over a long period of time" is nothing compared to the rate of the (overly redundant) cash shop threads that started about a month and a half ago. Also note that your thread is the only complaint thread I've seen about these new quests, I don't think people find this as bad as you do.

Anything where you can track progress is easier. Lights was tedious and time consuming, but, I was able to track progress on a spreadsheet and pretty much knew how much more I needed. They could have done 2 ways of getting the new drops, either lucky with rng or run dungeon 10 times and get the item. Strictly RNG is just painful especially where AV is concerned. I think one of the dev teams at SE just wants to have some good laughs at the players expense since I am sure their numbers indicate how little that dungeon is run not because it is particularly hard, but because it is so damned annoying.
I have no prayer for that...

:/
If you're going to post the word "only", at least do your research first.
Here's another complaint thread for you:
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ks-Square-Enix
Also this thread here isn't a complaint thread, but there are posts in it complaining about it:
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...p-rates-so-far
I do agree that there doesn't seem to be quite as much hate as for ATMA (and cash shop) so, for now at least, it doesn't seem to be widely despised.

Well, I did say it's the only one I'VE seen, but then again I don't go prowling around hunting for complaint threads so I figured I missed another one. Still though, nowhere near as bad as the previous segments. Until we come across the poor sap who can't get the AV drop even if his life depended on it...
Nah, there is actually some people, myself included who are thankful to see this questline going, maybe the fact that I'm not part of the smartphone-candycrush-DLC-cash-shop-generation™ is helping thereto be fully perfect the last steps would require some serious endgame kills and the cake would be totally iced to me.
Meanwhile, maybe... People should complain less about true creative and original side quests ideas, these said ideas belong to the DEV team, which is a sort of Art, video game is also Art... This thread is like kids complaining over a Picasso painting because it look destructured and odd... Such childish attitude.

Because the amount of backlash was not as great as you think it was.

Because this is their way of getting players back into old content. It's like any other part of the relic quest line, they need to force players into returning to old content because otherwise nobody in their right might would touch it.
Atma - Have Level 50 players spam FATEs to help new players have another option for EXP and make the open world seem more populated than it actually is
Animus - Do old dungeons to make queues better for new players + myth requirement means you were spamming some Lvl50 dungeons anyways
Novus - Just a huge gil sink in addition to the grind, still dunno wtf their intention was with this since Materia is ridiculously RNG and expensive as a result
Nexus - Spam a bunch of old trial instances to help new players (Though in their shortsightedness they didn't take into account people would just throw up PFs to burn through them as fast as possible rather than queuing up)
Final Stage - Do old dungeons (Wow this sounds familiar by this point), now with RNG, to help new players
The Relic Questline after the first step (Chimera, Amdapor, Hydra, Primals, etc.) was never about actually having something enjoyable to do. It was always about having a huge timesink along with making content easier to access for new players rather than making it enjoyable for the people doing the questline.
Not saying it's wrong of SE to do things like this, but they didn't think enough before doing it. I know a lot of people that quit the game or quit the whole relic weapon, just because of the amount of time you need to spend on it. As casuals (I'm one myself), they'd rather spend their few hours ingame doing something else than spend 2-3 hours on two dungeons or hours on fates WHILE also needing luck to get some progress.
Novus and Nexus were the most stupid additions, though. Novus is expensive as hell, and Nexus is done by spamming garu/shiva/ramuh HM's, cause you can finish them within two minutes with a party of full i110+.
Isn't the roulette pretty much good enough for throwing people back into old content? They should make it this way that you actually get one random dungeon, instead of currently where you would maybe get satasha 9 times and suddenly get a Sunken Temple of Qarn once.
