We should get this down officially in the forums. Feel free to quote this post when it comes up, again!
Fan Fest Las Vegas Post-Lore Panel Livestream: Special Guest Koji Fox
There is some paraphrasing - the interview was unscripted and had many run-ons and fragments that have been cleaned up.
Fan Question:
What are the age scales for every race?
MCKF:
Biologically, the five races have a similar life span to what we do on Earth, they can live to be 100, maybe even 120. Biologically. The thing is, here, we have modern medicine and jobs that don't take us onto the battlefield. We have food in refrigerators, not sitting in barrels. We can live that long, but Eorzea is a harsher realm. Like, there are raptors roaming the jungle. "Oh, I need to go out and pick an ogre pumpkin." becomes "I'm sorry, daddy got eaten by a raptor and now we'll be eating nothing." Daddy dies by raptor, children die of starvation. And on top of that you've got wars! I wouldn't expect a lot of people to live longer than 20 to 30 years. The average lifespan is a lot shorter, as a result. That said, Elezen actually do have a longer lifespan than the other 4 races. You'll notice the Elezen children in Gridania from 1.0 are still children five years later. That childhood can last a lot longer, and they end up living longer, as well. For the most part, though, it's still the same as us but with more fatality.

but why do we never see a Lalafell child anywhere? Perhaps it's true that we reproduce by infection?
Lol there are actually lalafell children, tho I have yet to see any in ARR I remember a few in 1.0, well I can actually remember only one of them.
There was a moment during an echo where a lala was called something like "young lalafell" then once out of the echo, the very same lalafell was called differently, something like "seasoned miner" (this one is totally random as I don't remember the actual name) he looked the very same as his younger counter part, only his clothes were different.
So maybe it's just a coincidence and the two were different lala or they were indeed the same one; which would mean that lalafell physically stop aging at some point, or age really slowly (again physically), then once they reach a most advanced age, they start aging in a rather fast pace, like how papashan looks now (the elder sultansworn) he still has a somewhat childish appearance but due to his hair color (and obviously being called "old papashan") you can tell he his not in his prime anymore.
There is another hint that leads me to think like this, the twin brothers from the amajina concern; those two were around 18 years old during 1.0 (echo time, you never actually see them in the present I think)
Even tho 15 years have now passed and they are now around their 30s they still look the same, while F'lhaminn the miqo'te who was in their gang seems older (the model is the same tho, they did a good job using the glasses and dress to make her seem older)
This is all theories, but personally that's how I think it works, might be wrong, might be right ^^
The only problem is the other characters, only Ascillia/Minfillia actually showed sign of growth during both games, all the other char looks exactly how they looked before, so either the devs didn't thought about it / left it as it is because it could take time to make new models/designs for existing char or it's all intentional, if it's the later it's really weird :/
