My only concern is that while still rather new, asides the basic treadmill content we are not getting much content coming into the game. The time they spent planning out how to squeeze every last dollar out of the wedding stuff could have been put elsewhere.
Back in the day they used to add content to make your subscription maintain value, now it seems people justify cash shop purchases with stuff like "Well it costs money make content you know right?" many games continue to this day with more content coming out regularilly without a cash shop.
What about the things that haven't cost them a dime to put in the cash shop? Let's even put Slepnir aside. The new dyes...do you think it actually takes them any time at all to shift a few color slider? Selling previous years seasonal event items, instead of either.
A: Keeping them rare rewarding the people who obtained them when they were available
B: Bring them back every year while still adding more content to make the event's have more and more and more content ever year.
They have instead decided to cut the previous content and give (Figurative of course) a kick to the groin to those who have...
A: Obtained the content last year, making it less of a achievment to have it as it can just be bought.
B: Punish those who weren't around last year by making them purchase it if they so desire (Content that has allready been in the game developed, animated, rigged, skinned, whatever other costs you want to slap on to them)
C: For those who missed it and don't want to cough up cash are screwed and the events continue to roll out with the same ammount of content year after year.
Instead of seasonal events building upon themselves year after year, they segregate it and put a big paywall behind content that has allready been developed for the game. Our subscriptions aren't just to "Open the gates" as so many people think. The subscription is to make them money (They do hand over fist allready without a cash shop) and pay to continue to make the game and keep it updated. Nobody pays any other game a subscription fee to just "Open the door" only MMO's now that they have integrated microtransactions within the game.
Christ I've payed less than $5.00 for games that cost nothing to play online and are constantly updated new content added on a consistant basis. You can't justify the cash shop with "Costs" because those costs are part of why we allready pay for the damn game! It certainly doesn't cost them that much to roll out 3 new dungeons (2 that often use heavilly recycled content) maybe a trial, a handfull of craftablem items (If we are lucky). I just don't see where the whole "Costs" part of the justification comes from.
