That's only 1 ability... Another positional or 2 won't hurt any NIN's chance to preform to their maximum damage potential...I dunno, a lot ninjas I see don't even do near the max dps they can actually do. But then that goes with all other dps you see in df on average. I think its easy for ninja to do okay damage without much effort but to do their optimal dps requires more attention and prep. Also making sure you don't fuck up your mudras or having to worry that the boss changes direction just before you land your trick attack and lose out in potency and vulnerability debuff.
I wish it would be as easy as you say to do max dps as Ninja, I don't feel able to get the max out of my DPS with a ping of 130~ with WTFast on.
Mudra lag, most NA players don't even know what real mudra lag is and there are people who have it even worse.
With Monk however I pull way easier high numbers.

That sounds like more of an issue with mudra lag and not positionals... which is what is being discussed here...I wish it would be as easy as you say to do max dps as Ninja, I don't feel able to get the max out of my DPS with a ping of 130~ with WTFast on.

But."It's way too easy for a ninja to do max dps at the moment. It's a necessary change."
Ninja already is harder to play than the other two melees, positionals will just widen the gap even further.
While I do know that other jobs will also get additional stuff that makes them a lil more difficult to play but unlike Ninja those changes are actually appealing and make people excited.
I kinda miss that here.

So being able to give threat to other people and also take threat away isn't exciting? I'm pretty excited for this so I don't have to hold back at the start of a fight in a DF or some PF groups anymore... I dunno man, maybe you should try another job then. Ranged don't have positionals, new MCH looks pretty fun.But .

This comment is pretty similar to the wording used in the letter, and the reason why positionals can be interpreted as a nerf until patch notes by many. Something along the lines of "NIN can go full power from the get-go, so we are adding positionals so they won't do that".
2 enmity management skills for NIN in a sense screams to me, however, that NIN will have the potential of generating a bestial amount of aggro on themselves and hence will NEED those skills. My chocobo will suffer!! hue hue
Maybe they will go the boring way and just affect the potency of weaponskills if they are done from the right position.
Maybe the only skills that will get positionals will be Jugulate, Mug and Assassinate.
Maybe the potency affected wont punish with a negative but rewards with a possitive. (Same skills, more damage).
The only sure thing is that we are about 7 days away from knowing the full theory of the changes (since we'll need to reach lvl 60 first)
It's kind of disappointing the amount of people who clearly main other classes coming in to gloat, insult and mock the people who are upset with the changes/lack of value to the ninja in heavensward.
Most people wouldn't care about the positional changes if they felt they were getting something valuable to balance out the negative changes this will bring.
you underestimate the general population of FFXIV, they could keep the potency as is for a missed positional and increase the potency for a hit positional and people would still complain they have to move to do optimal DPS as a ninja now, thats just how people are.

The thing is ninjutsu/mudra isn't as difficult of a mechanic as a lot of people say. Yoshida even said they initially released ninja overly strong because they thought a lot more people would have issues playing it well, but they ended up having to nerf it. It's more difficult to get off every positional while dealing with fight mechanics than being able to stand still in the safe spots and doing a ninjutsu every 20 seconds IMO.
I don't mean to hate on ninja; I love the job. I just think adding positionals is a completely fair change as long as it's not for every weaponskill. I'm just glad they aren't taking away positionals from drg and mnk to balance it.
