I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but I digress.

The eternal bond wedding bands being sell-able caused a huge muck on the forums, and I'm not really sure why. Now, before you jump down my throat, I didn't buy them nor did I intend to buy them, because I wasn't going to spend $20 on half of a video game wedding. I was, however, kind of rolling around throwing a couple million gil at it.

A lot of people accused SE of selling gil, but that's not true. No more gil was put into the economy than there would have been without it, it simply moved it around. It also opened up the avenue of people who couldn't or wouldn't buy the bracelet through the gift shop to buy the bracelet with gil as a way to experience their wedding without shelling over $20.

So... I don't really understand the issue. New gil wasn't being put directly into the game, and it let people subvert the cash shop. I mean, I guess you could argue that it made it convenient to make money, but I've got maybe two months of game time since the game's been released and I already have about six million gil. Not a great feat, by any stretch, but I've never been found wanting for gil and I've never seen it as difficult to obtain if you had the ambition.

Where was the harm in it? It wasn't cutting into your profits, or preventing you from getting the bracelet. It actually made it easier to get it. Why take away that option?
