Made me platinum freaking mad.

I've been fishing fairly casual/hardcore (variating) since late 2.2 after friends often suggesting it. In 2.3 SE stealth-nerfed the desynthesis difficulty of majority of the fish that had anything worthwhile from desynthesis and as such I managed to make a small profit on my server for being among the first to notice and take advantage of it. Nothing big really as I didn't fish 24/7 and I knew an oversaturated market would just ruin it anyway (which happened anyway within a week or two because Moogle market is absolutely horrible).

Anyway I calmed down with fishing a bit, kept to getting my supra and BiS accessories and occasionally going for the big fishes for the log, doing it on a zone to zone basis to keep it easy to keep track of and at a decent pace. Nothing could go wrong right?

Well wrong, it turns out some fishes in La Noscean zones are designed to really REALLY aggravate you and boy did they succeed. First it was the Cupfish in Lower La Noscea. I thought the rain exclusive fish, Syldra, would become the trouble for this zone but boy was I wrong. Cupfish took me months to catch and I went to fish for it in its 3ingame hr window several times almost every day assuming I had time between Coil, real life and well, sleep. Absolutely horrible. But I persevered, I figured nothing else could be worse. (I started to fish for it in 2.3 and didn't catch it until a week before 2.45.)

I approach 100% completion on all La Noscean zones (and unfortunately only around 50 big fish due to my casual approach, I notice the Syldra with its Rain in Lower La Noscea is going to be a pain I think because Rain is quite rare, however when I finally went to fish for it when rain showed up, I caught FIVE in that single window and not a single one got a way. Neat I thought, it gave me hope that fishing isn't as horrible as Cupfish showed it to be.

But no. Enter the Terpsichorean in Eastern La Noscea. This crab has single handedly made me hate everything about fishing and whoever has designed fishing to work like it does. Constant fish gets away messages, super rare weather requirement and generally really rare to even hook? Terpsichorean is by far the worst thing I've encountered and I've fished a fair amount of the SUPPOSEDLY harder to get fishes like Aetherlouse (before SE nerfed it to hell in 2.4), Frilled Shark, the housing region fishes and pre-supra Olgoi Khorkoi (without FC buff). Nothing beats Terpsichorean.

And to make matters even worse, the fish guide entry for Terpsichorean claims the thing isn't even rare. Then why is it that Fog only shows up in Eastern La Noscea ONCE every 24-48 RL hours and the thing either never bites or always gets away? I'm really REALLY ******' mad right now about this crab because I've been at it for weeks, eagerly awaiting that Fog only to get laughed at non-stop. This IS NOT A GOOD DESIGN.

I've had it bite 7 times total out of 4+ windows now over several weeks and all of them have gotten away. I really really hate this thing and I hate everything about it and whoever designed this aspect of fishing needs to sit down and be forced to fish for this and some other big for two weeks straight and see how fun it is.

not to sound like a troll, but maybe stop fishing? At least for a little while. I find when I get upset at something, weather it be wiping on a new boss, farming atma, FATEs for animus books, hunts, farming dungeons for gear, trying to craft that 3*, etc. I simply do something else for a while. Can be a day, a week or a month. Who cares if u miss a fog patch because you are mining? Go get the next one when you aren't so busy and I bet you catch it quicker than u thought.

Pretty much agree with ColdHearted's approach. It's what I did to keep from entirely giving up on fishing. Terp certainly is bad. Hell, many of the Big Fish behave similarly. I had to break 370 gathering before I could land The Matriarch or Old Softie. Meanwhile I caught ten Ninja Betta, so go figure. Keep on trucking, bud.

I would do this if Big Fish didn't become a requirement to progress with fishing now with the new rod from achievements. It also doesn't help that as I said, Fog is really rare, depending on how I'm online and not doing other things, it's between 24-48 real life hours to even see it which is insane for a single weather effect. I know the 2.4 fishes have similar rare weather requirements with weather transitions, but at the same time it seems SE changed the weather rotations to accommodate for it (hence the frequent triple weather chains now) but Fog was either made more rare, or is intentionally that rare, in which case the fish needing it should not, like Syldra isn't that rare once it rains in Lower La Noscea, there is a clear disconnect between requirement and result and it shouldn't exist.

What's the point of meeting the overly costly and time consuming FSH requirement if the fish itself is an obnoxious time sink with literally no logic, sanity or reward behind it? It makes getting the gear pointless and just feel like a waste when it should be the opposite.

Edit: Even the game is taunting me now, 2 more to the count of get aways and a HA HA FUNNY ACHIEVEMENT. I have all the reasons to be mad right now and the devs behind this can shove a large camel spider crab up their rears.

on average fog appears ~2 times per day, that aside:

dont focus on a single fish, I bet there are still plenty of other big fish which you havent caught, there are always several windows open
try to catch whatever is open and dont mind about specific ones, there are maaany fish around which are far worse than terpi

Again missing the point that it doesn't matter if there are other fish to catch (I am going for them occasionally). Fog is rare enough that I clearly don't spend all my time in Eastern La Noscea but I go there when it finally does show up as there's no reason NOT to when I NEED to catch it to get the Ironworks Rod. There's no stupid "haha wait til later XD" excuse viable for this. Also it's gotten away TWELVE FUCKING TIMES NOW. How is that even remotely acceptable? No fish can possibly be worse than this. Feast of Famine fish need not apply because they aren't needed for Ironworks rod.

you will catch it sooner or later if you just focus on the fish which are available, there are plenty of fish with 5% weather conditiond and even worse 5% followed by 20% and things like that

Try using the Pray emote at each of the twelve's symbols. If it could (Almost) stop behamut It's bound to... at least give you a new reason to curse the twelve.

In all seriousness though, just take a break. I get the same woes hunting the other 9 atmas that I need for my 1st atma relic. And you need a total of 132 atmas to get all the relics so I certanly aint hurrying.
