Why can't we place macros with /hotbar ?

    As the title says.

One way around this is to place the macro on a different (hidden) bar and copy the whole bar over. So there is already a work around, ergo, it's possible.

So why not allow /hotbar to place macros?

PS: Especially when so many things need macros to work around.

I do not quite understand the question, but I'm guessing you mean placing macros on a hotbar by command, the way justabout any other thing is placable on a hotbar thru command line.

    Currently:
     /hotbar [subcommand]

    →Edit and configure hotbar settings.

    >>Subcommands
     action "action name" [#1] [#2]
Set the specified action to slot [#2] in hotbar [#1]. If [#2] is omitted, the action will be set to the lowest-numbered slot available. If both [#1] and [#2] are omitted, the action will be set to the lowest-numbered slot available on the lowest-numbered hotbar available. This applies to all of the following subcommands.
general "general action name" [#1] [#2]
Set the specified general action to slot [#2] in hotbar [#1].
     item "item name" [#1] [#2]
Set the specified item to slot [#2] in hotbar [#1].
     emote "emote name" [#1] [#2]
    ...

    Adding:
    macro "macro#" [#1] [#2]
Set the specified macro to slot [#2] in hotbar [#1].

would enable macro swapping macros. which was requested here:
    http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...itional-macros.
only more appropriately addresed in YOUR topic. So thanks for that

Seconded. With every dollar I subscript to this game, and every hour I've played, seconded.

Seconded. Or thirded. When I switch to Cleric Stance, I'd like to swap my attack macros with some of my healing macros (where they're more accessible, and carpal tunnel isn't as much of a factor).

I use two distinct bar :
Bar1 with healing and cleric stance macros
Bar5 with dps and cleric stance macros (hidden by default)

when i use cleric stance macro on bar1, it's replace bar1 by bar5 (bar1 is now hidden)
and when i use cleric stance on bar5, it's replace bar5 by bar1 (and bar5 is hidden)

    problem solved.

You must not know the game's Macro policy.

    3. Make it a support feature that can be used by people that are a bit shaky at controlling the game to ensure control, while not making it 100% optimized.
    4. The player makes the execution decision. We will not be implementing a feature where the macros makes its own decisions. For example: We will not be implementing a feature that executes things based on certain criteria (player status, enemy HP, certain actions, etc.)
They don't want to allow macros to be used to make the interface easier to use because they want us to use the user interface they intended. Personally I can not see how giving Macros added functionality would somehow ruin the game. Has it ruined any other games? Not that I know of.

I suppose this type of thinking explains the 1,000 forum character limit though. "We want you to express your thoughts in 1,000 characters or less because we think that should be enough for ANYONE!"

I must admit I have a rather cynical view on why SE does some things they do.

this would be amazing, i'v been looking for a way to have the gashial greens (i know its spelled wrong) on my hotbar, and after i used it to call out my chocobo, it would be automatically replaced with the withdraw command and vice versa. having only 1 hotbar slot to summon and put away my choco would be great.
