Litter across the forums are various SMN complaint threads - including a super long one in the DPS forums.

Players are unhappy for one reason or another.

For "flavour" reasons [1],
  • Egis not impressive enough (not a Real™ summon)
  • Egis have "cheap" models
  • ... etc.

Or "functionality" reasons,
  • not enough DPS
  • chunky mechanics [2]
  • ... etc.

But I wonder, how do the Japanese players feel about the Job? Just as many complains?

[1] Lore-wise it isn't half bad. It ties in nicely with 2.0's main storyline. That said, the quests did felt a tad impersonal. Our "instructor" was just that, an instructor. The only other NPC we come across was a rival.

Actually it's very similar to the LNC quests, but in that we help out the rest of the Lancers and the rival was IMHO more interesting.

Compared to say, the BLM quests ... or even the ACN and THM quests - to be frank, I find the Class quests to be better in general, they help you feel more connected to and apart of the world.

[2] A part from SMN current MP issues, the Job's weakness when it comes to on demand burst is a bit of a problem - yes, Fester hits hard but if your 3 DoTs aren't up, you are pretty much screwed.

Killing short lived adds are problematic. Short boss burn phase (like Captain Mason in Satasha HM) are problematic.

Then there is Enkindle ... The amount of times I have burn that CD to no effect because the pet got stunned (either directly or by Paralysis) ... Pet mechanics needs a fix up.
