    Extreme Lag issues on PS3

    Hi there,

Yesterday evening I proceeded to log into FFXIV, however was met with terrible lag, at first I thought it was my wifi connection so I changed my connection to a cabled one using a home plug connection as my modem is downstairs (I have never ever had issues with my connection even on WiFi let alone my home plug).

As I proceeded to play I found my connection would disconnect me for upto 20 seconds, give or a take, to which I'd suddenly come straight back into the "fight" (Garuda HM farming for Nexus) and would witness everything speed up to the point of my return (HP bars going up and down for party members, the changes of game effects etc), like I had fast forwarded through time! The lag proved to be so inconvenient that I decided to log off for the evening, much to my dismay (and therefore not capping my Poetics for the week).

I have tried to log on tonight and the red "login" button isn't even visible on the login screen!! I typed in my password and I am able to "click" where the login button is but nothing happens. The login page music is playing, the article pictures are sliding through as usual but I am simply not able to login at all! Because you can't even exit through the PS3 menu I have to shut down my play station altogether!! Is any other PS3 users having any of these problems? My internet connection is perfectly fine (as I have streamed on demand etc perfectly) and I have tested the connection via PS3 settings and my connection is perfectly fine.... Can anyone help?!

    Connection Specs
    - Virgin / optic broadband
    - netgear

Model Number of the PlayStation®3 You Are Using
    - Model Number: CECH-2003B

EDIT: after my 3rd attempt to access the login page the green login button has now appeared, however I am now sat in a queue to even get on... I feel this Ddos issue has returned somehow??

EDIT EDIT: now I'm back I game and I'm still lagging terribly, accessingn retainers and even job changing seems to be delayed by a few seconds... Not going to be able to do anything it seems

since SE hasn't stated the DDoS to be resolved, we have to assume they are still going on.

I certainly hope that is still the case... I can't play if it carries on the way it is right now

Those floods and other styles of attacks happen all the time (click the Attacks tab--can zoom in and hover on areas or expand a regional list for the current numbers). Even if they've stopped hammering XIV directly, we could still be suffering in a peripheral fashion.

Number of attacks Akamai logged the last 24 hours:

    Code:
        California 1,515,942
        Virginia 1,339,841
        Oregon 662,127
        Illinois 393,277
        New York 332,483
        Texas 316,563
        Maryland 140,761
        Georgia 135,837
        New Jersey 116,192

I've had the exact same issues since the DDOS occurred a few weeks ago. I have 10 - 15 second Lag on most actions, sometimes the music for the location doesn't load, the game freezes whilst trying to talk to NPC's (I've also had the issue with the log in screen) I'm playing on PS3 as well, with a wired very strong connection.

I originally pinned the issue down as being a result of the DDOS attacks and gave it some time to see if resolved itself, which it hasn't.

Hopefully some light can be shed on it.

I have had the exact same issue for weeks now. Since the first ddos attacks were reported.

Contacted tech support fro SqEx. Besides the fact that they were extremely smug jerks, they blamed everything on the ISP or that I play wirelessly. It's hard to accept that.

I have had my ISP open all of ports the support told me to, Reset my router, uninstalled the game and reinstalled, and tried changing settings on my PS3 from any topics I found. Any other game I play online work with no problem, I have great connection speed and connection, I can stream netflix, and work from my computer 10 hours a day with no wireless issue. But SqEx support is telling me for sure its my internet. I'm giving it another day or so to clear up on its own before I cancel my sub. I've wasted 10-12 hours combined, on the phone with support with my ISP, chat with SqEx, and trying various methods on my own to come up with a solution.

Been a fun 15 months or so but just the support alone is making me want to just cancel.

DDoS attacks don't simply resolve on their own. either protection is implemented or the attacker stops. we will just have to deal with it till SE can fully mitigate the attacks, or outright prevent them.

Your "internet" is a very complex web of networks owned and maintained by a lot of third parties that your ISP has agreements with for carrying your data from point A to Point B. As such, it is rare that you follow the same exact path for different services--even when they are offered by the same company, you may still follow different paths getting to your assigned servers. Without looking at your entire route, it is hard to rule out your internet as a culprit. If things appear fine at the endpoints (which sounds like what has been verified--your ISP looked at your local segments, SE at theirs), then it is likely something in between and thus your "internet" is still suspect.

For PC users, run Resource Monitor (resmon) or Netstat from a Command Prompt while fully logged in to the game to identify the address your client is actually using--Canadian IP's will start with 199, the ones in Tokyo start with 124. For console users, you may be able to look at your current connections from the admin pages of your router to find this IP address. If you can't find it, you can at least run tests to the lobby servers. Here are the registered DNS names for them:

    neolobby02.ffxiv.com (199.91.189.74)
    neolobby04.ffxiv.com (199.91.189.93)
    neolobby06.ffxiv.com (199.91.189.106)
(The JP lobbies use the same name scheme, but with odd numbers 1,3,5)

Run a battery of tracerts and pings to this IP both during good and bad times, saving the results and then forward them to your Tier3 support techs for review. Also, include some tests to other services for comparison--another game, or other popular services or even google/youtube would be good so they have something for comparison. There is a strong chance they will find issues either with their exchanges to their routing partner, or somewhere between there and the exchange to SE's ISP (Ormuco). It's been true for a LOT of people that have gone through this process, and many of them have gotten some considerable relief from the congestion that is causing a lot of the lag/disconnects.
