    Endgame = Raiding/Dungeons Only?

    A recent thread has heated some minds on the topic:

    Community Team, could you please try to get an answer from the Devs on whether or not the future of endgame will only be comprised of instancing raid dungeons? The most worthwhile content anyway.

    I really enjoy the dungeons, but i long for another open-world endgame zone similar to Sky/Sea. I just don't want to see all of endgame being dungeons only.



    PS: I really like the Garlean Invasions, but they aren't really worthwhile. It would be nice to see high level invasions (with monsters too), that occurred all over the maps that anyone can participate in (similar to campaign).

    To be honest you will have to wait until V 1.21 to in fact have a better understanding where or how this game will end up , I honestly believe v 1.20 will be the initialization of a game that should have been done since the release.

    Are MMOs EVER complete? Last I checked they are always adding content until they die.

    I hope that we continue to see more dungeons which not only offer more choice in content, but also see better balance and changes to current overlying mechanics (see my Timers adding needless difficulty/forced role favor for example).

    Additionally, I agree with the OP in that we'll need more than just the easy way out with dungeons and raids. If anything, plenty of other games have that part of the market cornered to the point of boredom.

    Open world content is still relatively fresh enough to offer something interesting. The whole Garleans vs. City States offers plenty of potential for 'stuff to do'. Invasions, infiltration, assassination, capture or rescue all taking place in the world? Make them impact the game enough that we have reason to do it and keep doing it; providing a good reason to keep playing our game.

    yes... and when its a really good MMO its very depressing. lvl is maxed out, dungeons are just too easy and never change, monsters are always where you left them, and everyone knows the game too well for it to be at all exciting.

    well technically mmo are not all raid based but even past favorites of ours have 'raids' by a diff name. Nyzul Isle, Dynamis, Salvage, etc in ffxi are all basically raids they just are not called as such. So you really cant complain about the game being raid based for endgame. If se took the tag 'raid' off them and called them something creative like 'assaults' no one would be complaining lol.

    But the game is new, remember ffxi in the beginning, wasnt much to do their either. It will come, the new devs are doing a fantastic job and fixing this game.

    Agreed on that, though I would also bring up that perception and variety plays into this.

    Consider FFXI and how a lot of the content was set up. You have lots of end game content relevant to only high levels (open world dungeons, instanced dungeons, world events etc.) But you also have LOWER level content that offers a challenge to everyone regardless of their level (thanks to temporary level capping).

    What I found particularly cool about the ability to be scaled to content is that it eases the level barrier. In WOW, your ability to participate in content is strictly dependent on your current level. At the level cap? Sorry, all you can do with lower level content is power through it without much challenge. If something new and interesting is introduced that isn't end game, you'd have to make a new character to truly experience it's challenges.

    Granted, I'm not even accounting for the job system here which adds a lot to experiencing content.
