I agree with the OP, the point is that grinding raptors is BORING AS HELL. There's no challenge in it, it's extremely easy and fast.
If I have to grind for hours I'd rather do something engaging, not battles that make me sleepy, so I'm looking for something a bit harder and battles a bit longer that require the use of some skill, not just Multishot. But if those battles are giving me less sp then it's really pointless.
I've never comared FFXIV to XI, but in this case FFXI grind was fun, it required a good party, the use of a lot of skills and the average time it took to kill a mob was fine. The levelling process was too slow (at least when I used to play) but you had fun while grinding and you had a glimpse of the role of your class.

I have to say, I think guildleves grind was more fun than raptors, at least we had to do something different in every leve (necrologos, defending, etc) it got boring because of the Broken Water thing.

I totally agree reward things that are more challenge and engaging not less like it is now, while I haven't made it that far I already see it being easier to grind mobs that give lower SP's compared to tougher mobs that give only slightly more since you can kill the lower ones faster and make more SP per hour.

It just isn't any fun and I also agree grinding in XI was fun for me, while when whitegate areas came into the fold it did get a bit easy mode but before that it was quite challenging it doesn't need to be to that extreme as it was theres a good balance to be had and XIV certainly doesn't have it. If XI's grinding was anything like this I wouldn't have played it for the years that I did.

Again its not about wanting XI here but its about wanting a challenge and at LEAST being rewarded on a equal level not a less one.

Why are we being punished for winning tough fights where you need to play skillfull
Why are you doing an r40 leve at r50 when you're already at cap?

It is my shield rank. I get Shield (rank 50) and Thaumaturge (rank 33) skill points.

    @Felis
I also get the same amount of skill points for both, but not when you are 33 and do a rank 40 leve.
Skill Points are capped to your rank. Rank 50 = 4.500sp, rank 33 = 3000sp for the very same leve, with the very same class.
So it is not about sentinel getting more sp's, it is about a higher rank granting you more skill points, while it makes finishing the leve much easier.
easy = good sp, difficult = bad skill points.

You get benefits for choosing the easy way.

    To say some additional word.
It is a big deal, because it makes grinding (or playing in general) very boring.
And why not give us an option.
Fast, easy, many vs. Slow, defficult, few.

SP/h could be the same, if it really has to, but it most definitely should not be much worse, like it is now.

The rank cap is because mob type yield much more SP different and the fight varies a lot in term of challenging. Fighting a Doblyn 15 ranks higher than you is still a walk in the park compared to killing a Drake 10 ranks higher than you. It is there to reward people who actually enjoy a real challenge rather than people who enjoy exploiting SP off the weak Doblyn.

Do the old balance of highest difficulty you can complete vs. time required to finish.

I've been noticing on 5 stars skill points will go up an (admittedly minor) amount due to flying through kills.

5 min increments seem to adjust it, but the 15 min mark kills my bonus sometimes (use aspect if you're gonna do it fast)
