Hmm, if that is indeed the case, that does make it better. I can approve of that change.Exactly this.
They removed the positional requirement from impulse drive and changed its potency to 180. Previously it's potency was 100. 180 when used from the rear.
Had they ignored the damage buff from correct positional for heavy thrust, the notes would have stated "potency set at 170".![]()
I hope this is the case, otherwise it would make the job less fun, more bland, imo. There'd still a good reason to do HT from the flank, which would be good. At least when the mob is moving too much, you won't get your damage gimped because you couldn't apply the move from the flank in time.
My group got through adds on T11 today and I took 9393 damage from Unmitigated Nerve Cloud while our WHM took only 6266 from same attack. That is taking 50% more damage so I'm hoping these changes to M.Def are noticible (as they should according to notes) :PI do agree that the pos reqs were important, but I know of me there is a lot more to it. Without having to worry about pos reqs AND the CD change, the pace of our job is probably going to be a lot quicker. The MDEF boost is also not slight at all! At least not to me~ The amount of DMG that we take from unavoidable magical attacks was HUGE especially if you paired it with BfB.

So Dragoons whine about Ninjas and end up getting them nerfed...they get a great set of buffs...and they still complain. *sighs*I think the devs could have done a better job with adjusting dragoon, the only major changes were the positional requirements, increase in DoTs and a shorter cast time for jump. WHY ONLY JUMP. At least 20 seconds? I would have loved to spineshatter or DFD more on the battlefield. Or at least they could have added more jumps to our arsenal so we can choose. It just seems much more easier and boring to play the class now.
Don't really care about the BFB since you shouldn't be getting hit or cleaved in the first place.
I say this as someone who started out as a Dragoon.
Some people are never happy. I for one am really happy with the buffs. The magic defense alone made me happy.
Edit: All I can think about them adjusting now is the cooldown timer for the the rest of the jumps but hey, still good.

I'm jumping for joy! Which I can now do more frequently with the 30s cooldown.
Loving these changes and can't wait to raid tonight! So stronk
I'm all for the buffs, but I should have emphasized since some forum posters here think they speak for the majority after reading 2-3 titles of ancient threads that the devs could have scrutinized and implemented new mechanics for the job rather than dps numbers. I would much rather Jump, SSD or DFD more to compensate for dps rather than just repeating the same TTT rotation until the next jump cooldown. The jumps are what makes the class so much fun especially because there's a danger factor.
Before an expansion? No.
Expect major game changing changes of change for Heavensward, changes like the ones in this patch for...patches like this.
Adding new mechanics is only done if the ones currently present are completely and utterly broken.

But this buff was not about changing the job, it was about bringing DRG up to par with the other jobs. It is silly to expect us to get new jumps before all of the other jobs also get new mechanics. Our cool downs for Jump and SSD were shortened in 2.4, and the shorten for the animation lock and the frequency of our jumps was VERY noticeable to me, and now we have been buffed further. I am absolutely very happy with that.
