    Fish for Culinarian Desynthesis

I've started to quite enjoy Fishing recently, and so decided to level up Culinarian Desynthesis so that I could make some money on the side. I've gotten it to about 69/70 so far, but have hit somewhat of a wall - going by the guide here, I should be desynthing i70 fish. I tried fishing my own, but caught only one (netting me about 0.2 desynth skill in total) in about two and a half hours. Buying them from the marketboard is prohibitively expensive.

Is there anything I can do for this/am doing wrong, or do I just have to bear the grind and wait for the fish to come?

Would help if you mentioned which fish you tried to catch.

Pirarucu is an easy fish to catch and bites relatively often.

You should go for the easy to catch 2-star fish. Takitaro is the easiest to catch. It is a 2-star direct-catch in Urth's Gift with a Yumizuno jig. You can catch one about ever 4-5 casts. The desynth list you linked is ridiculously tedious since most require mooching. If you want to start endgame fishing, en.ff14angler.com is your best. freaking. friend! Good luck, and may RNGesus shine down upon you.

Got it, thanks! I was going for the Gigantshark; maybe that was a mistake

For desynth, yes. There are other reasons to go for it.

Pirarucu is in the North Shroud, about 20% bite rate. When you cap on it you will be capped on all one star white border fish. And get used to that 0.2 skillup rate.

Another good green border fish is our old friend the Silver Sovereign.

By the time you get your Forager's Rod (assuming you haven't already got it) you'll very likely have dozens of NQ Silver Sovereigns laying around (unless you traded them in Mor Dhona [which I don't suggest]). Desynthing these, as Shadygrove suggested, is a fantastic way of increasing your desynth level. If you're using a fishing spreadsheet, find the fish that have no time or weather restrictions, and with gathering requirements which you exceed, and just go to town on those. Also, when possible, use live bait. Just buy stacks and stacks, and only reel in when you get that awful-sounding Big Fish tug. Good luck to ya.

Another good fish for desyn leveling is the Cadaver Carp in Mor Dhona at The Tangle. It's not a 'big fish' but is still two stars and you can catch it whenever it is Gloomy in MD, which is most of the time it seems. Use Caddisfly Larva or Rainbow Spoon Lure. Straight catch.

Considering Ninja Beta, that is a waste of gloom weather in the tangle.

Also now there is Aged Decanter sold at the Merchant in Silver Bazaar. I think it can get CUL desyn skill to around 80 but I can't verify as I'm beyond that already. 3k a pop but easier than catching big fish probably.

Big Fishes are "ilvl 80" for the most part, maybe some are higher, I havent checked.
They're used to reach 100, from 85 or so is a good point to start.

Takitaro is a great 2 star fish to get you up to 85 and finish the luminary achievement for 1000 fishes in black shroud~
