I find text scaling to be a huge issue in this game. Any text on the map is completely illegible for me and any time I'm doing story I have to get off my couch and sit on the floor in front of my TV so I can read the text without straining my eyes.

I agree. I went to play this in boot camp on my retina MBP and it was way too tiny. I ended up adjusting the resolution of windows entirely which made it all look pretty weird, but at least I could read.
Well I guess now that the threads related to the patch are starting to slow down, I can bring this issue back up. Is there any chance this will be addressed by the devs?
I wish SE would do something, i have 4k on my 15" laptop screen. imagine the UI scaling....my radar is the size of a penny at max size.
So this is how a modern MMO client with a sane UI design works. I took these screenshots in Tera because I've been playing it lately, but WoW works exactly the same way. The UI knows about relative size, so no matter what resolution you set the display to, the relative size of the UI stays the same. It baffles me that in 2013 Squenix managed to design an MMO client where UI size is an absolute based on number of pixels, rather than relative to the size of the viewport and independent of resolution.
I did nothing while taking these example screenshots except go into the Settings and change the resolution. Observe how the UI stays the same relative size no matter what resolution I set the game to. Of course, I can still resize the various UI elements freely from 50% to 200% and that's no problem at all when the relative 100% size is always the same no matter what resolution it is.

Yes, Tera really does look like that. The Koreans know how to make pretty MMOs. The Avatar Woods is one of my favorite zones in the game, although there are no blue people in these woods.
While I agree they should add better UI scaling, a large chunk of gamers won't be even thinking about 4k til the NEXT Generation of consoles at least since ps4 and the One still have issues achieving 1080p in general. Over the next couple years it will be easier and cheaper for pc gamers to switch to 4k but as of right now I say with at least the next couple years only the hardcore enthusiasts will go for 4k. Running 4k with a good frame rate on a single card right now is laughable at best. Sure you can achieve it and play it but you won't be getting that good of frames. Doesn't help that this game isn't even that well optimized for pc still.
I've played TERA for about a year, I actually don't like TERA UI. Lack of flexibility compare to FFXIV UI which is the best next to custom addons (WoW).
What don't you like about Tera's UI? I find there are a lot of useful things in Tera's UI which are missing from FFXIV's.
Necro-bump. This thread is kind of appropriate now. DSR is a godsend, but UI elements (specifically NPC chat-boxes) incorrectly scaling make it a no-go. Please consider, Square.
I completely agree, SE refuse to add anything above FXAA in the client and this also cripples outside solutions such as DSR, it really needs addressing.
