When I tank I enjoy the role for what it is. I am helping my team through and that alone is rewarding enough for me.

Why people don't like the role of the TANK:

1/ They can't have big numbers and be the best DPS if they're the tank, thus it's not rewarding for them

2/ They can't lead for shit since they don't know the tactics, kill orders, where to go, when to move etc

3/ They can't be arsed to be depended upon, they only want to dps in their corner and not be blamed for anything, most don't have balls despite being keyboard warriors behind their computer

4/ ^ People like to blame the tank for loss of aggro, even if 95% of the time if the dps just /Focus'd the Tank and / or followed the 1 - 2 - 3 - 'do not attack' signs they wouldn't take aggro. Or if they waited more than one sec for the tank to build aggro (on mono target you need at least 2.5 sec to be safe, even if you pull with Tomahawk, whereas you can afk Overpower to build aoe aggro though) Therefore, they don't want to be tank.

5/ Aside the usual Commendations (which are pretty useless, kinda like those ribbons in LoL), Tanks never get a Thank You. Aside from friend circles, you can't expect people to repay you for when you help them achieve faster queue for their story line fight or daily roulette. Thus, people are not motivated to play Tank. The "Adventurer in need" bonuses are shit.

6/ When you tank, even as warrior with offparts STR, you can't really speed up the run. Whereas as a dps, if you're geared AND SKILLED you can with decent dps. Most are just trash though and use this excuse to not tank ^^

7/ People scream on you if you don't speed run, people scream on you if you went too fast and then somebody body pulled a pack of trashes etc etc. WHEN IN DOUBT BLAME THE TANK. It's fun

8/ ^ Since most of the time you are paired with random people from other servers, it gives those jerks some sence of impunity in doing so. Why would you instantly join a duty as Tank if it's to get yelled at when you can wait 30 min and chill?

9/ Most of the time, tank's duty is just to ... Get punched. Sidestep the big badass aoe. Maybe pull aggro on some incoming adds. And that's it 99% of the time. It's boring as hell. You don't feel like accomplishing anything. The only way to let things go south is if you let adds go and rape the healer or if you don't overtake aggro from a dps who's tunelling a mob for no reason the tank isn't focusing... And even then, all those are easily avoidable...

10/ Did I say the "Adventurer in need" rewards are completely crap? People complaining about lack of tanks but don't wanna tank? The job is unrewarding. You're like dogshit thrown around here and there. Doing your job nicely or like a baddie people won't see the difference most of the time, cause the role is pretty easy... Even if you just spam 1 - 2 - 3 to build aggro, and don't buff / debuff / CC etc you'll still be good in the random dps' eyes cause you held aggro while he was all out PEW PEW'ing

Tl ; dr : Tanking is boring as hell and people never say thank you. Why bother? Heck you can spam your aggro rotation for a minute and then you built so much lead you can basically afk lol.

I like tanking for now, I feel it satisfaying being able to speedrun holding aggro on mobs. Explaining tactics to newbies. Having people follow my lead. Having instant queues. Not having to roll vs half the party to get my gear (Loving how people can't roll need on tank gear unless they're tanks in this game)...
But otherwise most of the time I feel useless. I'm just a punching bag Once I'm basically done gearing this class I'll switch to a dps class. Tanking is too boring.

On my server's DF, we're lacking healers most of the time.
I see Adventurer in need (tank) most of the time but when I queue as a tank, no instant pop.
Duty pops instantly when I re-Q as healer like 5s later (DF still showing tank as adventurer in need). :/

DPS isnt the issue with not many people wanting to tank. Its the pressure to lead people through dungeons. To grab and maintain emnity throughout the fight and how boring it can be at time.

I think it's partly because of that mount that most went Paladins and not Warriors. The bear mount is really not as cool as the lion T_T

Seems not many people bothered grinding 200 times of the same boring crap to unlock it either in fact lol. I know I won't

I agree with a lot of you. It takes a certain person to tank. You love it or hate it. A lot of people dont like the pressure of it or the lack of numbers. Giving better rewards for tanking will only bring people that either hate the job, are inexperianced there for will more than likely take a lot of ridicule for their lack of skill which both in the end will cause more problems. No matter how interesting you make the actual mechanics its just as simple as a lot of people for many reasons just dont like tanking.

As a tank you really don't notice small numbers at all because the amount of damage done numbers fly by fast and the text is fairly small. Tank honestly feels the same as a dps but you have the boss hitting you instead.

Warrior has been my main for 2 months now, and yes, i'm a lowbie and a newbie, but i've had experiences with tanking in other MMOs. So i have a bit of knowledge on the various types of players you run across. My gold rules are this:

    1. You pull it, you own it until you kill "it" or "it" kills you
    2. As a tank, i set the pace for the dungeon
    3. If you don't like it, no one is stopping you from leaving
    4. If you want to pull ahead of what i'm currently holding aggro on, then see rule #1

Most people are nice and willing to work and pay attention, as to not have issues with my rules and i don't even have to say what my rules are. I figure its common sense.
