How to make tanking more rewarding?

Tank is the least preferred role to play in the game. It is apparent from all those \\'in demand\\' messages on the roulettes.

I gave it a thought and after playing WAR for a while I think I figured out why.

Tanking isn\\'t as enjoyable as dps because it produces small numbers.

We deal and take less damage. Sure the whole point of tanking is to take less damage but the point is, we don\\'t know how much

Here is my suggestion: show \\'% damage mitigated\\' on flying displays like Parry currently does. So if I had Inner Beast active, a mountain buster would say \\'1610 (20% mitigated)\\', as opposed to just \\'1610\\'.

What do you think? What other non-encounter-specific improvement would you make?

TL;DR- show % damage mitigated by cooldowns on tank\\'s damage taken, just like Parry.

Well, I never noticed my (or other) Warrior(s) showing "small numbers". At least for a tank

I honestly don't think its because one doesn't see the effects. The effects are obvious, people aren't dying, at least from the factors in your control. People don't like to tank because of the other members in their party and their attitude, the stress put on the tank since all eyes are on you (and the healer). I'm sure there are those that just want to deal damage, but I don't think showing how much damage mitigated is going to make someone jump up and start tanking, it would be nice for existing tanks though.

I honestly feel that "nothing" is really wrong with tanking, but with the players the tank needs to party with.

Gives higher reward for adventurer in need bonus, up to ridiculous amount of 30k in proportion to how in demand the tanks are. This way you can make it more appealing without inflating the economy 'too much'.

That, or make it more flashy.

Edit : And of course, regarding undesirable attitudes from other player, it would be beneficial to all the newbie tanks out there to develop 'thicker skin' regarding criticism and/or insult. Remember that you're important part of the group, keep in mind that other players ARE expendable (maybe not the healer). This doesn't meant you can or should act like pompous ass, however. And when people offer advice, be sure to take it to heart.

i loved tanking, the reason i stopped is quite simple. People are absolute assholes. The daily insults for simple things were Rediculous. Either you're going too fast or not fast enough, people ignore direction and then yell and bitch that you were unable to keep the hate on that one mob you'd told people not to attack until last. The majority of the time i questioned why i bothered. People often would ask for my help, but when it came to me needing someone to return the favour i'd often get noncomittal responses from those same people.

Tanks are under appreciated and taken advantage of. That's why they're in high demand, because people get sick of it.

At least as a Ninja the expectation is low, and i get the appreciation of tanks because i get their plight and don't play for just myself.

While your suggestion would help, I don't think that's the real issue. As a tank you are viewed as the leader of the group, you are the one who assigns who is doing a specific task in the group. In regular dungeons you always have to be on the move the dungeon can't progress without you moving constantly forward, and it requires constant moving in/out of aoe and back in while also overviewing other things. It's kind of stressful.

As a person who is still playing as a tank for end game contents, I feel you. And I completely understand why you quit tanking.

I think the real issue is that some tank-able people are just too nervous now, because of all these healers and DPS who want to "Speed Run." I don't, and I make it clear that when I tank, at the start, I won't do a speed run. Ever. People who think tanks are meant to do damage, haven't played many MMORPGs.

Also, if you want to put healers through tests as a tank, I suggest playing a lalafell tank. A Good healer won't medica spam because they can't "Click" you through a monster.

If your playing tank for big numbers or think you don't like tank because of the numbers it produces then your thinking about tank in the wrong light and it's not for you. But it's not the Job's fault.

It's not about the numbers but more about the aggro we keep heck I've been in aggro keeping wars with other Tanks and I find it fun that we fight over it sometimes or I'm the one that has the aggro on the hunt monster over all the other tanks out there. Yes numbers will play into keeping aggro but there isn't a DPS alive today that can take aggro off me *thinking of being of equal item level of course" Sure it's nice to deal those big numbers but it's even nicer when I do a job well done and it feels more rewarding doing a job well done for a role that isn't the easy to play. Well to me it is it's just that people need to learn about aggro rather then just pumping out numbers and thinking that there all there is to it.

It tells you in the skill description how much you mitigate. Having it appear in flying text is just going to be annoying as it produces, well...more text that is necessary as opposed to the numbers.

As for tanks' DPS, if a tank is more focused on DPSing then tanking, perhaps they shouldn't be a tank anyway. I enjoy playing tank because I know I gain lots of control on a fight. Plus I pretty much have people by the balls because they need me.
