Coil isn't the only place to try out. I got into my static by coming across a static group that was 7/8 that happened to be farming Levi back when it was worth something. They liked how I played PLD and recruited me to their FC, hoping for me to join a static. But real life was in the way but once that was dealt with, I had a position available. Why? I happened to show this group of people that were recruiting how well I played and I did it outside of coil. So saying there's no way to show people is just giving up and rolling over, while other players are getting into statics.

It doesn't matter if you end up in an FCoB or SCoB static, if you are making progress, that's all you can ask for. You may have to take the hit and join a SCoB that is on T9 if you yourself have progressed to FCoB.

True, if you have no leadership qualities what so ever and also no dedication or determination to keep a team together and recruiting.

    This..

You can do this by playing well for ex's in PF etc, it does not only need to be during final coil.

If your more than pulling your weight, people will notice sooner or later.

joking aside, I'd offer two approaches. One: Either find friends and help them get raid ready and keep focusing on the weakest link so that you can all eventually do content together.
Or Two: Start small. Find one or two people who are also interested and then set your schedule and use PF every week until you start finding regular people who are also interested, and just sort of slowly build a team that way.

Both of these tend to be less of a monumentous task than trying to get a perfect team of 8 together all at once.

Be active, get yourself into the open. Let yourself and your ambitions be known, in any way, and with any tool you have. If all else fails, form your own static, or help form one. some times its more worthwhile to get a group of people at your skill level than ride on the shoulders of giants. I can say it did for me.

    So in short:
One need to beg for old content's clear because of the lock out..
One can hardly show off experience because it takes time..

One time i randomly joined a pf for T5 party, was a healer at that time and after failing 2 times, the other healer bailed saying because it's very late of the night.. Then the party leader, the tank gave me a friend request and had been pming me for a week even when i was in a shiva farming party, he pmed me everytime i was out from duty (this is really creepy).. Then he asked that me, taking anoter 6 people with me to help him clear T5.. I forwarded his need to the shiva party at that time only to get laughed at the nonsense idea of bringing 7 people to help a stranger.. So i'm just balancing out that advertising and showing yourself isnt enough.. You'll need the mental of a beggar and patient, which is very well reversed considering you cant have patient from PUG..

Finding a Static is all about networking. My current static I put together with mostly new to raiding players started 3 weeks ago and we are now raiding turns 6-9. My static is not full BUT I network enough to always have replacements available to progress. I built up a good repertoire with my FC and friends even the ones who already have statics. This ensures that I am always a consideration for their Raid Groups and My Own. I found it easier to invest in lower level/ilv players than convince equal players to join you.

To be in a static you have to prove you can either Lead or Learn.

This is very true and very demoralizing at the same time. Why is it that people are looking more to exclude people than include them? Why can't it be a team of equals, instead of "elite vs casual"?

And reddit is suppoed be better in what way? It is just more forums of gibberish. Is this not the primary FFXIV forums? Shouldn't straight forward stuff like finding a static happen here on these forums? Redirecting people is just more smoke and mirrors and the OP of that thread has been radio silent since so who knows what came of it.

What about that statement says anything about excluding people or elitism? He's saying it's worth your time to invest in players with slightly lower item levels and help them gear up for the content as it can be easier than trying to convince players with equal item levels (who may already have networks and/or groups of their own) to join you. What exactly is demoralizing about this sentiment? Seriously, that's such a negative way to view it. ._.

The reddit community is probably a lot more active than the official forum community because reddit isn't just about FFXIV. People are on reddit already for other things, and happen to include FFXIV in the groups that they post in.

If you're on T5, buy your way up to T10 (or whatever your server's pug progression curve sits at) or find an FC that is actually willing to help you.

Strut your stuff there in PF. Post ads on your local server forums, reddit, et al and in your server's PF when you have downtime.

It's a sad truth, but few statics on heavily populated servers are going to care how 'good' you are, they don't want to retrain a player in fights they've already done, so saying you have experience in current content matters more than anything. A Dragoon with some Dreadwyrm pieces that doesn't even stick Chaos Thrust is going to look more appealing than you at first glance if you can't say you've been to whatever content the majority of your server is on.
