As someone has stated earlier, you could add a glut of awesome tank jobs, with intriguing skills, but there would still be a lack of players willing to play them. It's simply because people don't like playing tank (and, to a lesser extent, healer). They don't want that sort of responsibility and stress. They don't want to deal with being berated and blamed when something goes wrong (even if you just happen to have a bad derp moment). And heaven forbid if you should be new at it and do not perform perfectly on the first try. And, for some, the role is just boring to them. For many players that won't play tanks, it's simply not worth it.

Magic Tank would be nice. Even had an idea for one in my class/job suggestion thread:

A mage tank would solve nothing, its isn't the class mechanics most people are interested in. Its the archetype's playstyle, most players just aren't interested in tanking.

The only way it would change is if the next tanking class did as much dps as a mnk, while being able to tank like a pld. Then a ton of players would reroll to play it.

There's a difference between having no effect whatsoever and making tanks the most played Role in game. Yes your point has validity, however the fact that Tanks and healers have the least options both conceptually and mechanically doesn't help the situation whatsoever. People have all sorts of irrational ties to classes, I mean how many people are consistantly requesting a "PURE DPS" bow class? A Tank class that feels different than the current set won't make tanks the most common role, but it might cut DPS cues down a couple minutes.

Not every one is a leader, nor do they want to be.

Tank roles are pretty much the leader in the group they need to know the fights and adapt quickly to bad players pulling mobs/threat because they just don't play smart or don't follow orders.

They have to know what they are doing, marking order, rotation, mechanics....

Because if they don't it really shows. A DPS on the other hand really doesn't have to know much... just dps (even if they are bad at it) and avoid the bad stuff. No accountability role vs full accountability.

I think if they want more people to use tanks, they have to overhaul alot of things. I have tried lvling up every role and tank is last because not only is it boring, it just seems off as far as feel. Gear is boring, skills are boring, mechanics are boring, and the way you approach fights are boring. Or i should say less fun than being dps. People like to see and measure what they do. I can measure when I dps how much dmg im doing, i can measure healing by how much im healing/how many party members are dying. But as a tank, what are you measuring your success upon? Just having high hp? surviving an encounter? Generating hate? Its the least flashy of the roles, the most demanding, and its boring. They need to change that in order to improve people using it more.

Also, the skills are horrible. They offer no fun. Tank in this game more about managing than destroying. Its giving real actual "tanks" a bad name. In actual war, you dont see tanks just standing there, taking gunfire after gunfire, everyone focusing their attack on a machine that does less damage than a pistol? No, tanks generate hate and fear because they are POWERFUL. They should be taken out first. If i was a mob in this game, you couldnt even pay me to aggro a tank. Im attacking healers and dps all day cause if i get them out the way, i have a better fight against this games tank. Theres no reason why I solo and can kill things faster with my dps than a tank holding a shield and sword or a damn axe. Thats why i hate it.

I apologize for multi post everyone, but what i think they can do to help is make the tank role focus different depending on job. For example: PLD has high hp, dmg output should be close to dps, but make it so more healthy the party is, better/more dmg skills do. And then for WAR, more dmg War sustains, more dmg it does. Now to balance that, most of the dps in this game are already weak as far as hp and such, so make mnk/ninja more about dodging attacks, keeping dex up while fighting, make brds dex tie more into dmg of attacks and speed to move while firing. For blm, dps should solely rely on concentration while casting spells and casting time. Longer the cast/stronger the spell. Because im sorry, damn bard with arrows should not ever do more dmg than tank (with same lvl gear of course). Want another ex. check out Dragon Age: Inquisition.
