The command /sigh does not exist.

I really would like some more... Tetsuya Nomura style shorts for the male swimsuit. Would be awesome.

You might not be uncomfortable with it, but about 90% of the people I've spoken to don't like it. On my Elezen it looks like I stuffed myself in those shorts with all of my might, and then put on a Lalafell's t-shirt. It's just not stylish to me. Not to mention it rides all the way up to my crotch..seriously, give my Elezen some breathing room. >_>I'm starting to think the western world is far too obsessed with what is feminine and masculine. Honestly, these swimwears are really neat! It adds a "flare" of a different culture. This is what Eorzean men where when they swim. Sorry?
I really actually like it, and I don't understand how some of you say the poses are feminine either. The Elezen one makes them seem shy/bashful, not feminine. But to each their own.
I guess I really just don't understand the complaints. It's not like they make you wear a dress.
/shrug.
Edit: Personally, they remind me of the normal npc gear from Zanarkand.

Insulting people in the counter argument isn't going to change their minds. It will make them stick harder to their opinion regardless of whether or not it's right, and think less of your opinion simply because you insulted them. In essence, if you want to try and change someone's mind, come up with a well thought-out response and don't be a dick.

Banana Hammock or no dice.Again, this is NOT a hate thread at all. I LOVE this Summer Event. Yoshida, I think you and your crew have done a wonderful job capturing the feel of a festival for your game. You've surpassed my expectations (Admittedly, kind of half expected Bells again ^^; ) in pretty much every way! The animations for the balloons, and the atmosphere of the event is completely awesome! As well as the idea behind it.
That being said, as a male player, I'm not particularly excited to receive the rewards for myself. The ONLY reason I've seen any actual excitement to wear them is from people who enjoy wearing Subligars as joke, or male players that like/used to effeminate clothing. I went and got one, of course, but it doesn't mean I actually enjoy wearing it.
I understand that traditional Japanese swimsuits are more along the lines of what we've received in-game, and that's fine. All I'm really asking for is variety in the future. I want to be able to put a swimsuit on my character in-game without it being a skin-tight speed-o. Release different types of swimsuits.
Possibilities: You all remember the famous Blitzball player Tidus (at least..if you played FF10 you do).
Make something like what he's wearing. It's like a mix. He used them to swim in so I'll consider the trunks a swimsuit! http://www.heavenlyswords.com/images/C/tidus.jpg
Now, to go along with that, I understand that since SE has decide to go with swimsuit Tops as well, just go with the vest-style idea that XI had. I actually liked those. I remember only ever wearing those instead of the full set because the male trunks always looked so close to a speedo.
Once again, I'm not hating on the summer event, I just know I'm not the only person thinking this. If women can get swimsuits that get to show off that they are sexier (i.e. thread: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/16387-Can-we-get-female-outfits-that-are-a-little-sexier?highlight=sexier") then why can't the male versions also be able to feel at least comfortable in their swimsuit? I want to want the reward, I really do.
TL;DR - Just asking for more "style" variety in next year's rewards. Some men like to wear Speedos/skin-tight short-shorts, but I like to wear swim trunks.
If you think I'm completely wrong and 90% of the male population actually LIKES their swimsuit for reasons other than joking around about it, then I'll gladly tear this thread down. But it doesn't hurt to simply ask them in a nice way.
I find the female swimsuits fine, and the male swimsuits disturbing to look at.
For me it feels like a gone wrong version of trying to give the girls some eye candy to look at.

Shrug, it's Eorzea, not the US, and not Japan.

True, but lets take a look at Ivalice:

Surprisingly, there is a western term for the Summer Top items. It's simply a skin-tight construction of a chest harness. Although the style is not common, it has been featured in multiple summer fashion campaigns over the past few years. BUTCH showcased the chest harness in their 2010 campaign and Rufskin Denim has carried a line of chest and shoulder pieces for a few years now; many of which are poly-blend or spandex and are marketed for wear with workout gear or swimwear. Rufskin even showcased most of these chest/shoulder pieces at the AmFar fashion show in New York City last June and The New York Times ran an article around the same time about the growing popularity of the harness. The shorts are not what people are complaining about as being effeminate. It's the top that is definitely extremely effeminate and it is a bizarre choice, frankly.
The confusion I think is because there is no word for these things in western culture. People have been saying mankini as in a two piece men's swim suit where the top is a strange micro shirt instead of a shirt, but some people are thinking that refers to the shorts when they are obviously not bikini style shorts, thankfully.
Now, do I think Square Enix went out and researched this particular style before creating these outfits? My hopes don't run that high.
Even though the harness is a legitimate style choice (though primarily seen in pop culture and marketed to the gay community; which is one of the few reasons that I am even aware of it), I would have to agree with the OP. More style options could only aid next year's Firefall Faire. Give male characters a second, more relaxed, option to choose from. I wouldn't be opposed to longer shorts and a loose-fitting full-length vest for my character! In the same respect, give the female characters something that will allow them to cover up a bit more if they choose.
TL;DR: Nothing wrong with more options!![]()

(First post in this site. Here it goes...)
Even though I actually like the current male swimsuits (never realized my character had a sexy a-... bottom), I agree that Square Enix should place more variety in swimsuits for both men and woman. Besides, my character, Bal, is not a big fan of wearing tight clothing. :-3.
