I'd go back but they ruined that ... I really enjoy XIV since the update and hope someday I will actually talk to someone in game that I don't know irl or maybe even be in a LS if some miracle happens.
I don't want someone coming up and interrupting my fights being a jerk because they can't find their own mobs.... putting this in would make me avoid other players completely while soloing, which is what I do 90% of the time because not a single person in the game talks to me anyway. I already deal with jerks coming up and trying to steal the mob I am targeting and right in front of, or some high level coming in and mass aoeing all the mobs I am exping on for their farming. I feel I don't need more issues with this. If they want in on the exp or the party I would be happy to do that if they are around my lvl. I try to be respectful and not claim anything someone is about to attack. They all act like I am not even there.

"Hey I need those items, can I have some if you don't need them?" I would more then likely help out if I didn't need the item and even if I did I would try to share if there was plenty.... I want them to ASK ME. TALK, say actual WORDS that seem to be nonexistant in Eorzea. Not just come up and steal it without any reason to talk to the other person... No one has been welcoming, kind and helpful to me in Eorzea so far. I don't see this new system making this any better. I really want to work with other people not feel like I'm competing with them all the time. What I liked about FFXI was seeing so many people working together as a team and they made it work with that claiming system. I had more fun with that game then any I've ever played. I met more amazing people then I could name.... because they would walk up and ask me if I needed help or could give them a drop I might have gotten. My heart used to pound that last 60 seconds before an NM popped when 4 of us were standing there like an old fashioned showdown wondering which one would be the winner. I always congratulated and befriended at least a few people that way, and even joined them to hunt together.
Again I will state this is just my opinion..... but that new system would more then likely ruin the game for me unless they get literally none of the reward unless they are in alliance or party.

On a side note I don't want all the good drops to be in instanced raids either, and I detest the idea that everything good is on a stupid time limit. Since when did being rushed have to do with skillful play anyway.... I liked the mazed mapless areas, and all the aggro mobs, and the danger and sense of adventure.... not a linear dungeon with a time limit so the main challenge is to hurry without messing up...
/sigh ...

Anyway petitioned signed..... sorry for the minirant, lol. ^-^; Back to soloing. @_@
Wow, my thoughts exactly.

And you raise an interesting concern as well. Will this change lead to an even more anti-social community? I haven't given this any thought until reading your post.

Why would we ever need to party up with one another outside of instanced content anymore? If we can attack anything and everything at any given time, there's no reason to ever socialize with anyone. If this is the case I would completely withdraw my party search and seek invite proposal as it would hardly serve any purpose anymore.

Sure, we still only have very limited info about this, but from the info that we do have, there have been many concerns by a multitude of players. I really don't see some of those concerns being resolved when we do get new info either.

Hopefully we'll hear more about the reasoning behind this decision in the next producer letter, and if it's still unwanted by a fair amount of the player-base, I'm praying it'll be something that can be reconsidered.
