The idea isn't horrible, but the implementation seems to be off. As I've probably said a million times in my time at the lodestone, I'm going to use the ideology of ArenaNet's dev-team (Yes, I'm a big fan of the upcoming Guild Wars 2, sue me.)

They think that people should always be happy to see other players. And this is true.

If you're 2 HP from dying and another player comes along and is able to save you without having to heal you, but it doesn't destroy your Reward for the damage you did do to the mob. Say you spend fighting 10 minutes alone fighting an NM, and then suddenly you're about to lose but another player comes along and helps you kill it because he needs something too. He comes over, helps you do the deed, and you are both rewarded based off how much you contributed to the fight.

It's a Massive MULTIPLAYER Online game. We should be happy to see other players.
I don't agree that most of the game should be instanced as far as endgame, because I did enjoy my sea/sky raids, but I don't see why rewarding players for helping each other is a bad thing when everyone is awarded based off of contribution to the fight. We should be worried about killing the mob, not worried about claiming it from someone else.

It would give reason for linkshells to come together against a large foe instead of potentially griefing each other.

What they should do is make it so that it whatever item drops is put into an "Open Pool" that is available to anyone who contributed, and people that are eligible to use the item are able to roll on it.

Insulting people in the counter argument isn't going to change their minds. It will make them stick harder to their opinion regardless of whether or not it's right, and think less of your opinion simply because you insulted them. In essence, if you want to try and change someone's mind, come up with a well thought-out response and don't be a dick.

They make it instanced because most of the time you won't want to/don't have the mean to share the drop with another person. How do you share a much coveted helmet drop with 10 other person? Each person take a piece of the helmet? Not to mention I will happily relieve your hard work by coming at the last minute and hit the NM once to ninja your drop.

That's why they will still have open world NM but more coveted stuff will be instanced.

Well, of course it would have to be thought out better than I have, but I'm also not a game developer (yet. Huzzah school!)

From what I've seen in ArenaNet's video here:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUVLclPDCBE (Skip ahead to 4:36~ish)

You can see that once the Shatterer is killed a big chest drops, and everyone goes to it and receives a reward useful to their class based on how much effort they put into it. Can you imagine how awesome big fights like this would be in FFXIV? Would be much more fun instead of ALWAYS fighting over a boss claim.

Isn't that why SE decide to do more instanced based and do away with claiming system in open world? Instanced based mean you don't have to be worried about claiming boss, while in open world you can help other people. I don't see what problem would you have with it, since you want both the loot and the ability to interact with other people, correct?

I'd like to hear about it more directly from the dev team before I make my assumptions. Although I prefer more open world content and this sounds like it encourages the oposite.

Though, I am with everyone in the hopes that the way SE implements it does not cause people to be jerks.

the problem is with either option they gave it will be easily exploited. i'll give simple examples

    1. they make it to where first person that hits the mob gets the drop. simple run up and attack a mob while a group is getting ready to attack it and then let them kill it and you get the drop.

    2. whichever group does more damage to a mob gets the drop. grab a high level party and run around and just overpower a group if they out claim you. don't say it can't happen when we already see the disparity in time it takes people to beat dungeons and nm's already.

i understand that it is faith in mankind that makes people think things like this would not happen, but most people do not live by an honor code in real life and the numbers are even lower than that in an online community.

unless alot of foresight is put into these changes i can see many people in here complaining not long after about people coming griefing them.

    1. If some guy came and took the NM you were planning on killing, would you kill it? I wouldn't. I would let that guy die and wait for the next one. The spawn rates aren't like ffxi.

    2. This doesn't seem to be what they are planning, but if it is, there is room for griefing here. I could go on about greed, politics, and the depth of player relations in this post, but lets just say that every yin has a yan.

    1. no i wouldn't, but if the same person stood doing it repeatedly or had a claim bot in the area it would get very old fast. i was just stating it had more ways to grief others and could be easily exploited.

2 this is a direct quote from Matsui.
"For contents with alliance we’re thinking of a system where the loot is evenly distributed or changing amount of loot depending on amount of damage given."

i was just trying to point out flaws that hopefully they could see that could cause issues before they made them into the game. i would love to believe in a perfect world none of this would never happen, but we know that we don't live in one and not everyone is out to "help" anyone other than themselves. i just hope they put alot of thought into how they would make the changes and try to look at it from all angles of what legit and shady people would do.

I can just hear new players coming in to FFXIV for the first time asking themselves "Where is everyone?" "The towns are empty, no one is out in the lands doing things, hunting things." "Oh, their all tucked away in their little instanced zones where no one can see or watch the action." So much for 'outside linkshell' play. This game is starting to sound like guild wars not Final Fantasy. I remember when they introduced the Buffalo to this game, everyone was standing around watching the fight as it went on. Good stuff. We need more of this. We need an audience, spectators. It's what an MMO community is all about. Not hidden away in instances all the time.
