^ what he said.
Carbuncles please! They're too CUTE not to be used more often!
They're designed to replace carbuncle basically. Notice how Carbuncle and Egis have the same skills basically, that's not a coincidence. Which is why I said "skinned over" because it's basically being placed ontop of carbuncle for summoner. If they went the route they did with SCH there's a good possibility Carbuncles could remain with SMN, but they sadly did not.
The issue is that, it's not scaled for end game, when it's just a small percentage difference in attack potency (for Emerald vs Garuda) and also in terms of tank enmity (Topaz vs Ifrit). This causes issues with other players who could voice annoyance. Also in end-game dungeons, its assumed that you would go in as a job instead of class (SMN/SCH instead of ACN). You might then argue, since difference is small, go ahead and use carbuncles by removing the soul stone. But then there are skills that arcanist don't possess since it's a class and not a job.
My point is, why not have something that keeps carbuncles relevant?
I've said this before but what bothers me most about Summoner's selection of pets is this. You spend 30 levels playing exclusively with Carbuncle, bonding with it and becoming a team. You fall in love with your Cabuncle as it's your cute little partner and you two share your adventures. Then you strike level 30 and it's taken away from you. No explanation just abandoned. One could argue that you could just not apply your soul stone but that's simply not acceptable within the game's own terms. So now you're given an array of.. other.. pets. Pets based off the primals. The very same primals that were just trying to kill you and you the same to them. There's no reason for you to work together, there's no friendliness there. They're not even a conscious entity just a fraction of your power. It feels empty, it feels soulless.
Admittedly, I am not a lore junkie so I do not recall the exact explanation for this, but it just feels weird that the story heavily focuses on beating down on the beastmen for summoning primals then running around with a bunch of us summoning the beastmen primals.
But anyho, I miss my friend, Carbuncle. I feel guilted and sad that I have abandoned my little companion. Garuda is not my friend, nor my partner, she would sooner alleviate me of my head if she wasn't just a ghost of her own being.
I don't feel like giving the summoners pseudo primals makes us feel more powerful and advanced from arcanist, it just feels like bait and switch.
So, please SE let us come full circle and reunite with Carbucle within the new level cap.
This. This. Thank you. You explained exactly what I was trying to voice. I'm really trying to like Garuda, but like you, I don't understand why we're using the Primals that we were sent out to slay in the first place. Every other facet (vanity, fashion, furniture, even promotional materials in FFXIV) contain carbuncles, so please give us a reunion with our carbuncles. Please.

Same.
I started playing under the (mistaken) assumption I could be ACN all the way and have a cute pet ... : /
SE loves using the Carbuncles for PR purposes, although in-game they aren't really used much at Lv cap. But that is another debate.
It's fairly trivial to add them back. It's mostly just a cosmetic change and updating of some stats. At times I wonder if their refusing to add them back means they have other plans for them ... - Classes usable at end game?
I mean, maybe they have plans to make Classes usable at end-game and they don't want SMN and ACN having identical pets hence no Carbies for SMN - as if they give them to SMN they can't just take it back.
It's been confirmed that the new summons for summoner would include the Leviathan and Ramuh egis......... After seeing Garuda egi, I wonder how they would look like. If carbuncles are to remain, it would be as a separate job together.
