    Is FFXIVAPP legal?

I'm a little conflicted from this since I have recently found out about this app and have done some research to find out if it's legal or not. Went through multiple threads and I seem to come by very conflicted opinions on it. People saying you can get banned for it and others saying that it is confirmed that it is allowed.

    What do you guys think?

Third party tools are all against the ToS.

However, the GMs stance is effectively 'it's generally harmless, just don't broadcast you're using it and we won't chase you down'.

Personally i hate parsers, but i know they're useful for many others.

Basically this. Don't tell and don't harass people with it.

Oh my god, I had a couple of parties a while back where there were asshats using Parsers and berating DPS for having lower-than-expected DPS. Such disgusting and toxic behavior.

I play tank, so it doesn't affect me directly, but bringing parsers into PUG dungeons and using data from that to attack other players is absolute dickishness.

And this is why parsers will never really be "accepted" because it allows you to call out bads. Bads are gonna bad, it's when you throw concrete evidence at them that they're bad you become the bad guy. A no win situation. As most have already said, fight club rules apply.

Precisely. You can always say "sorry, we don't like your haircut. We have to replace you."

I don't think THAT is against the ToS.

It has little to do with calling out bads, and everything to do with how they go about calling them out. Nobody complains when this is done in a civil manner. If you are being a tool about it (throwing it in their face, harassing, berating, etc), then yes, you are indeed a bad guy.

EDIT: I was trying to reinforce the reason for those people being the "bad guys," not accuse Nadrojj. Just wanna make that clear.

That means stuff like bots or hacks. I've been playing MMOs since MUDs and I've never heard of anyone getting banned for a parser in any game.

    no dear.

A third party tool is ANY software that interacts with the first party program that isn't officially sanctioned and created by the first party. Parsers read information that is logged by the first party (the game) but allow you to then use that logged information in a way that is not usable by those without the parser.

It's third party, no matter how you swing it. Don't be naive about these things, if you're using a parser, don't talk about it. fight club.
