Once again this doesn't work. I entreat you, take a model straight out of one game and 1:1 import it into another on an entirely different engine and uses a different format. Let me know the results.
The XI team is also workin on ARR which left an extremely small team working on XI itself. To get into specifics, there are no kobolds in XI, there are Weapons which the "body" is a kobold, but they aren't one in the same, XI's Kobolds are Arcana creatures, XIVs are beastmen that worship Titan.

Nevermind that I can't really run the game at max.
FF12 model, only the texture color changes.
Closest to the textures used in Coerthas.
So, same model but slightly more detailed wool texture and sharpened/filtered/shadered textures overall.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe Yoshi clearly said back in those day before 2.0 (release or so) that 2.0 will include well know creature from other FF titles

Well they are 1:1 creatures from other FF titles (models and textures are engine agnostic, seeing how they're almost always created outside the engine, unless for some reason they only work in a specific engine, then that's usually a bad or really weird dev practice) so I guess he stood by his word. The thing is that they didn't create or at least try to make new designs for iconic series monsters, just like pretty much every other Final Fantasy that isn't ARR has done.

You're wasting your breath OP. Every time we have this thread you get the same blind idiots who can't tell the difference between using mainstay Final Fantasy monsters but updating their art/models/etc. (like bombs) and directly reusing art assets from XI and XII (like pugils).
Except the pugil isn't the same model... it's extremely similar but there are differences, it's not the old model it's being compared with in this thread anyway.

FFXIV originally launched with pretty much every monster having its own unique model for mobs, if I don't remember wrong, there might have been some "copy n' paste" from previous games, but I can't recall any to be honest.
But you're asking a team of people to create a MMO in about 2-3 years which I believe sums up ARR development time and create 100% original content from menus to boss fights.
NOT HAPPENING!
They saved a game from an already dug grave instead of shutting the game down.
So of course sacrifices HAD to be made.
I mean today you got a fully functional and VERY GOOD game compared to what vers.1 was. So they copy pasted enemies into the game? So what? The time it would have taken to make those “original” monster models might have caused time stress in other areas of development, and then maybe we wouldn't have had ARR in such a short time.
And besides, they are starting to throw out a bit more "original models" even if they are slightly reskins/remodeled of previous ones, it’s what every RPG pretty much does.

I still don't understand what the big deal about this is -I mean it's not like this is the first time a model design for a monster from a previous FF game has appeared in a later title (FFXI's mandragoras also appeared in FFXII for instance).
Besides, there's only been a few monsters from certain games resued, they didn't exactly take every monster from FFXI/XII/XIII and just plonk them into FFXIV with new textures - as others have tried pointing out, it's meant to be just more homages to the FF titles that came before it.
I admit though there does come a time when you start to think "enough" in terms of fanservice referencing in the game, but a few enemy models from past FF games is not a big deal really when there are more important things to worry about.
Actually Eorzea has six modern citystates - the other two being Ala Mhigo (which of course is under the jackboot of the Empire), and Sharlayan (of which it's unclear as to it's current situation - I've heard it variously stated that it was attacked by either the Empire or the Dravanians and destroyed, but nothing is known for certain). So I guess your statement about there being four citystates is true, from a certain point of view.![]()
