Hey wait a sec! You've already played TERA and SWTOR?
Heard -really- great things about tera, and there are already videos which show a 20-30 min SWTOR raid, which sadly looks a lot more epic and immersive than what ffxiv has released. SWTOR is esentially just KOTOR cept multiplayer. Which honestly seems epic. KOTOR and KOTOR II were both great and their instances are like the KOTOR quests, with a lot more dialogue and story than "enter raid, kill stuff"
Mew!
what u guys consider raid?, i mean if we only getting things like what we got right now dungeon type for 8man groups, then hell yeah this game ain't keeping me. i expected huge linkshell events like in ffxi, even the 15man crab parties this game started off with lead me to think this would happen till yoshi the yes man took over.
but no cop like missions (party party party, bosses bosses bosses) then yeah i'd probably quit b4 ever buying an expansion. only raids as in no camping for hours on hours for poping nm's and hnm's naaa i didn't like that, now if they can find way to pop hnm's 24/7 like the nm's we got now i'd be very happy, that is competition on all hnm's all day, just give them low ass drop rates, and give us items to farm in places maybe and items that drop from other nm's that when used on the nm it highers u'r drop rate a little maybe. something like that.
salvage loved it, but only stuff like this... no way ...every mmo is like this ...ffxi was set apart from others with the way it did endgame and cutscene missions with party play. it is all it really has for me to stay, other games then have many things above this one if it goes the same route as them. like op said, tetra is looking really good, and all u botters can come play that game so the no target system an pvp servers can kills you. lol
and waiting for timers like seik said is a no thanks, in pvp games least u do them and u go do other stuff, this game don't. endgame stuff is the fun stuff, it should be big and badass. and many types.
and also what seif said 8man stuff = clicks = warhammer dungeons = no need for full linkshells = static runs with maybe a few pick up players when u "Need" them. half the players playing will quit, why level classes to max in a linkshell and be some dinky pick up player that will never do runs, theres only so many groups gonna run even if ur the biggest linkshell what 2groups? ...but these are problems for now cause game is empty, if was packed not that much of a problem. but at some point still the game dies out, how do they go from no caps on stuff and making things easier for people who can't get things done cause they started playing game late to, this same dalema. but lol i can keep blabbing but yeah this game needs to step it up way more, small dungeons won't cut it, though i think yoshi did say there will be larger group stuff. lets hope b4 payday, cause i won't pay till it's in the game.

Dynamis, Limbus, Salvage, Nysul isle, einherjar, = Instanced
Ground kings, sky, sea = non instanced
XI had more Instance raids for endgame then there was Claim NMs. Only reason claim NMs stick out more is simply because thats were the most Drama came from. Myself I'll love the game more simply because my Favorite events in XI were instanced ones. No one to bug you. no one to cry when you beat them to claim.
loved sky and sea but also loved the others too, ...only thing that got me worried and on edge if i'm leaving or staying is if it gonna be small 8man stuff or full linkshell stuff. rather play a game where everything is a dynamic world and i can party with people all day long like most new games coming over just 8man stuff.
It takes a lot of crap to get me to leave a game im put a lot of time into...
But it still happens.
If 75% of content is Instanced, ill prob find a diff game.
Its outside NMs were also one of its failures in a way.
Was abused hard by RMT, monopolized by bots and camped window to window. So no I won't be quitting. I'll be playing more often and actually killing stuff rather than spamming claim every pop window.
I specifically remember alot of the end game community rallying at the fan fest years ago, going as far as drawing plans and diagrams for instancing the 3 kings. So no matter how much nostalgia you have to look back on, in reality it was fail when the content was relevant.
They can put a few things outside to have fun with, but rare drops and important stuff should be available to anyone willing to put in the effort to do it.
Before the trolls start drooling and pulling their hair out, no I don't mean spoon feed the casual players all end game gear. You can put time consuming requirements and attunements on the bosses with the best gear. I would just give people the option to play without camping 9 hours a day or using bots.

I wouldn't ragequit, but I'd probably get bored pretty quick and leave anyway.
Open world content has always been my preference over heavily instanced content. Overuse of instancing makes my adventures feel separate and inconsequential. It's almost like you're not playing an MMO anymore because people outside of your party have little influence on how you play and you have almost no influence on the game world - it becomes something like a static structure you can only look at and not interact with in any meaningful way.
Plus, I kind of like competition. We forge new alliances over it, linkshells harden or shatter, drama erupts, rivalries form, friendships are made. It's all pretty controversial and I can see why people don't like it, but I think it adds an element of life to a game that might otherwise be lacking in grit. It's when you get emotionally invested in something that it takes on real meaning to you and I personally think that is when the best memories are made and the most fun is had. But that all boils down to opinion.
Of course, there's no real way of telling if SE is even heading down that path, so this is all totally hypothetical.
