I guess I would be the latter, staight for the action. I did do one raid, Toto-Rak. I enjoyed running and pummeling. I just don't like to sit and do things for hours, I just have other things I would prefer to do instead of playing a video game for hours and hours on end...3 hours max I'm good.

I'm not huge into endgame either way, so it probably wouldn't make or break any game for me personally. I do think that the best game would be one that has both options (as well as other systems that take a long time for people who don't like big groups at all), so that more people are able to enjoy it.

I never liked that some games instance ALL of their content, since that defeats the purpose of having an expansive MMO world, but I wouldn't want there to be NO instances like FFXI either.

As for Yoshida's comments, he also said this:

So they're obviously not going to instance everything, even if more rare drops are instanced than not.

Yeah I totally enjoyed sitting in Dragon's Aery for three hours browsing the internet until some bot claimed Fafnir so I could go AFK in Behemoth's Dominion for three hours then log off.

clearly its not your cup of tea, but others liked it. If you hated it so much back then...why did you do it? Hell why would you do it if it got added here? Your not competitive and want the best gear do you O.o

Well I'm sorry if I have higher standards for "fun" than you do. To me, standing around doing literally NOTHING for hours, just waiting for single mob to pop is the most excruciating, un-fun thing I can imagine doing in a video game. NMs wouldn't be so bad if there wasn't the whole "camping" thing that went along with them. Actually fighting the NM itself can be great fun, but having to camp the NM just ruins the whole experience, especially when you're sitting there for three hours (or more) and you lose the claim to some bot. I have better things to with my time than waste it on bullshit like that. I'm not in high school anymore. I don't have endless hours I can just blow out the window. My time is a valuable asset to me, and I will not play video games that waste it.

Because it's so unfair to give people that want to play the game something to do that isn't 5 minutes re-entry, instanced repop poop items.

If you don't want to camp NMs no one is forcing you. (Just like no one is forcing you to level up hurrdurr). You just don't want people to have better items than you because you can't commit the same amount of time as them.

If someone really considers themselves "casual" they wouldn't care either way.

Want to know what I seriously think? I seriously think you don't even play the game.

Way to be a total douche about it. I'm glad I have a higher standard for "Intelligence" than you do.

Kings where when I did all my homework back in college. Sure they are a pure hell if you actully just stared at your screen blankly for 30mins at a time... why most people did things between windows. Like 90%+ of the Aery was afk all but 30secs every 30mins until it poped.

    Go to faf
    -No pop window 1
    -Read 10 pages
    -No pop window 2
    -Read 10 more pages
    -No pop window 3
    -Do the written homework
    -pop window 4 kill it

    Then go to KB
    -no pop window 1
    -start next assignment.

World NMS is XI where the best thing ever for college student and high school students alike... gave you time to get all your stuff done. If they where not there I probably would of failed all my classes >.>

But surely spending (in worst case scenario) 3 minutes total playing the game out of 3 hours is awful game design. Times have moved on from that. I did kings because that and Sky was all the game had in the Zilart days, not because I enjoyed it. The fights were great if you managed to get a claim but it was bad implementation.

There's ways to implement items such as Ridills and have them just as rare without the game being a pain in the ass or spend 2 hours 57 minutes of every 3 hours doing anything but playing. The dungeon speed run in XIV right now is a good example of how to make items rare. No one on my server has a sword or bow. Implement something hard like that with further criteria for your Ridill and they become even rarer. For example, require a drop from three different dungeon's speed runs to be exchanged for an item. You then need skill in multiple scenarios to get your rare item.
