I tried to look it up on http://na.ff14angler.com/ but there is no entry for matriarch. Then again its a Japanese site translated into English.

What fishing hole? And what's your gathering?

Probably because the official name of it is The Matriarch, so you would find it in the T section instead of M. For reference, it's this fish: http://en.ff14angler.com/fish/282

And gathering is irrelevant, 399 is more than enough for old fish.

The ridiculously low catch rate is to make up for the fact that it's a three-star that can be fished up at any time during any weather. Small comfort, I know. :P

None of the other any time/any weather fish gave me problems. 1X missed might have been my highest but Matriarch just takes it to another level. >.<

Edit: Finally caught it after 44 tries! Never again.
