There is no correlation between skill and wealth. If the game is restricted to 'serious' players (those willing to pay serious money), then there would not be enough players online to group with or show off gear to. The game would be forced to go F2P to increase player numbers, which would mean more 'poor' people playing. Among those there would be some who make it through the game by sheer skill instead of relying on stuff bought in the cash shop.

Anyone remember the video from AION about power levelling? It went something like this:

Tank: "I'm taking a lot of damage here, could use some help."
Healer: "Hey, did you guys know we've got wings?"

(I know this is a troll/sarcasm thread, but hey, whatever.)

I, on the other hand, (max slider Elezen height) am the KING of parties and have absolutely no problem forking over an excise for sign height (implemented so I don't hit my head when walking into the Mih Khetto Amphitheatre), a tariff to Dravanian outfitters (because Gridanians don't make garments for Big&Tall), a bribe to Parsemontet to slip me a flask of the finest 'shine made from pixie plums to spike my Mint Lassi with, and a lien on that bribe to Kan-E-Senna for allowing me to parade around Old Grid drunk as fizzzzz.

I also don't mind the screen-sized pop-up that just charged me for using too many parentheses in one paragraph (better make it worth it!!!)

Silly SE, charging fee's that'll fit the masses are for scrubs. Since you're basically relating real life scrubs with a video game, I suggest charging the new Ishgard housing as a cash shop feature for the price of $1,200,000. Those houses are exclusive and are as nice as the penthouse I paid for and am living in. Also, subscription fee's should be $120 per night of gameplay. Think about it, it's like living in a hotel with all that you need. Granted that in game, you need to make your own food and find the materials for it, but at least in real life, it's already made for you. It's an extra experience where you don't have to feel the harm in. My friends Bill Gates and Kanye suggested it, and I think it's a mighty grand idea. *sips sparkling water*

"But $15/month is all I can afford!" YOU CAN'T SIT WITH US!

    Sincerely,
    The Canterlot Snob

I just realized, all this time we were thinking too small. Forget an external "Cash Shop," what this game needs is for players to register their bank accounts and credit cards directly with Square Enix. A percentage of every paycheque can then be deducted automatically and donated to SE. No fuss, no muss.

In addition to simply buying things with real money in-game, they could then set up regular fees for services that a lot of these free-loading squatters have been taking for granted. Every time you summon a mount, your account gets debited a dollar. Chocobo companion, 50 cents per minute. Duty Finder queue, there's an initial flat fee of three dollars, then an additional 50 cents for every minute you're in the queue. Selling items on the auction house charges you tax in real-world money, scaling according to item price. And of course, all FCs have to pay $200/month to renew their guild license.

This will be a great new way to support the game. Stop expecting game content to be handed to you on a silver platter, just because you "bought" the game and paid a subscription. Do you think chocobos work for free? Minfillia has to put food on the table too, you know. Even Nanamo is feeling the pinch, trying to fix the economy in Ul'dah for those freeloading citizens on welfare. It's time for the players to give back! If it meant no more complaining about trivial nonsense I would gladly pay for it.

At this point I would love more exclusive items in the shop. Just to make all the people complaining cry even more.

Soooo many good ideas in this thread guys! I applaud your efforts to help segregate the people who care about the game to those who don't. But wait, there's more! SE needs to implement a prestigious title, like "Sole Defender of the Light" that you are awarded after spending $1000 on the Cash Shop. So awesome!
