Medica II abuse needs to stop

This is a trend I've been seeing slowly pick up since around 2.2/2.3 or so but it's just outright dumb now. I swear 80+% of pug WHMs I see in roulettes and dungeons pre-cast Medica II or blow it as the tank is pulling, and then of course the tanks get blamed for not being able to hold hate. I don't know if it's because the changes to tank enmity spoiled this "new" generation of WHMs but it needs to stop. Pre-casting Medica II literally does nothing except generate ridiculous amounts of hate from overhealing, particularly if you stoneskinned everyone, and it makes life miserable for both the tanks and melee DPS. If you want to use a spell before a pull and look pretty, SCH is right next door.

I wear tank gear so my medicas aren't too op. Also so what if enemies punch me for a few seconds i'll just stoneskin my self -> swiftcast stoneskin to mitigate emnity while medica 2 ticks and heals me. Tank should be able to grab hate by then if not, i question thee!
If it isn't coil then probs won't be as big of a deal to ppl.
Also cuz i think its from all this high geared ppl flooding into dungeons.

I've never encountered this problem much mainly because I play with the Wife who is a WHM and I tend to hold aggro on the word go but I can see how this would be a problem for Tanks who's ilv is lower the then WHM doing the Medica II and do agree it's kinda a waste considering the Spell is more party AOE focused and abit of MP to cost and it's mostly Tanks that take damage 1st while the DPS are at risk later in the fight. So I do agree a Medica II at the beginning seems to be a bit wasteful.

Saying that though if I'm with a group in Ifrit HM and the Tank is well geared I'll cast Medica II/ Regen on him so I can DPS more but 8/10 I won't start with it.

Agreed, OP. Seen this more and more the past two months or so as well. It's idiotic and does nothing for the party - a Medica II is not Succor.

It's not a matter of being able to survive and let the situation rectify itself. There are literally zero - Z. E. R. O. - reasons to pre-cast a Medica II or use during a pull. Please, by all means, do come up with a valid reason. I would love to hear it.

Well the Tank will get the Extra healing tick on him along side Regen but that's all I can think of.

Remember that the tank can click it off.

In dungeons the healer will not get threat until he or she heals the tank so by clicking it off the tank has time to generate threat.

In trials, the tank will open with fight or flight or unchained and is usually just one boss so threat is easy to hold.

Yeah, medica II before pulls is dumb, but even if they don't listen, it doesn't really make a difference anyway.

You lost me at "tank gear."

Newbie WHMs need to learn that Medica II is not to be used like Succor. I think the habit of casting HoTs as if they were buffers is something players learn in other games and expect to work similarly here.

Think about how the Tank player feels when he/she sees the Mobs/boss run away from him/her to the people he/she is trying to protect. Now his/her rhythm and battle plan is thrown off and is put into a state of panic, using sub-optimal skills/rotation whilst chasing said mob/boss to try and get into melee range so that he/she can try and get enmity back. Now instead of being miles ahead, the tank and the offending player are in a tug of war of hate, the mobs spinning around trying to attack their new targets and potentially using fatal skills on the far weaker Healer/DPS.

That tank player did nothing wrong.

But will still get the blame because he/she is the tank and is always the first to be blamed for a failure regardless of the real reason.

Tank etiquette 101 guys. We stack so that you can just cast protect once. The least you could do is make life easier for us and in extent the rest of the party.
