    Speaking for myself, I'm a sucker for "limited time" or "exclusive" offers. Such as the cait-sith minion which was only available from pre-orders.
    I did try to justify pre-ordering it for the PS4, even though I knew I would be playing mainly on the PC, but in the end I just wanted a useless virtual item that serves no purpose.
    If I was really wanted FFXIV back-up copy for the PS4, I would have just waited for the price drop instead.

    So, some people might be trying to justify their purchase, when they really just want some virtual item attached to it.

    However, if you try to apply the same reasoning to buying stuff on the Cash Shop, then I have no desire to actually purchase any.
    Because;
    1. It isn't a limited time item
    2. It isn't benefiting anyone in-game
    3. It's frivolous spending of disposal income

    Sometimes those bonus code items are a nice additional incentive to purchase merchandise. I was contemplating in buying the artbook when it went on sale, but decided not to get it yet. I'm also a sucker for buying artbooks.

    It's a very good artbook. It's almost like a reference, and full of comments by the artists.
