Google is your friend. Googled "Yoshi P interview drop ps3" and it was the very first link, and I'm pretty sure this isn't the only interview where it was mentioned.

    http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/commen...p_features_of/

Relevant portion extracted for the lazy. This was an English translation of a Japanese language interview.

    Regarding future of PS3 version:

Do you plan to continue to support the PS3 version even after the PS4 version is released?
Y: At this moment, we've already begun work on the expansion pack, and I can tell you that at the very least the PS3 version will be supported up to that point.

Does that mean there's a possibility that PS3 users will no longer be able to continue playing beyond that expansion?
Y: It may be a possibility in the future.

How far off in the future are we talking about here?
Y: That will depend on how long people continue to play on the PS3. I've mentioned in the presentation this morning that I want to make sure that "FFXIV continues to innovate", and there's certainly the possibility that whatever innovation we seek will come with certain technical requirements. For example in EQN, which I mentioned earlier, it would not be possible to realize certain things like physic-based gameplay without meeting the hardware prerequisites. So if this becomes something that players want and we start to see people leave for rival products, then we can't just sit around twiddling our thumbs either. After all, we too need to ensure we have the necessary weapons to take on other MMORPGs in the future.
For example, if we were to have a large-scale FATE where players can ride on a flying mount and freely fly around and swoop down at a dragon that is 200 meters long, players would probably be impressed and entertained. However, it would also require us to raise the minimum requirement when it comes to hardware specs.
Our aim has always been to develop the game so that players can have the same experience no matter which hardware they play on. However, if we were to become too fixated on this and become unable to innovate, then this will cease to be a FF game. So I do not plan to say that we will support the PS3 version forever. At the same time, I'm not saying that we'll be ending support by next year or anything like that either, so don't worry.
As we keep saying they've already said they are evaluating this stuff. The ps3 will loose support eventually. The question isn't if. Its when.

People could play on the PS3 until they die; not a good answer.

It's NOT possible for the PS3 to handle physic-based gameplay. Oh wells, too bad for ALL of you! Muawhahaha!

So basically we are going to sit on our hands and wait for either the players or our competition to light a raging fire under our you-know-what-I'm-talking-abouts, to give YOU a better game.

Who woulda thunk it. The players would be impressed by their innovation and ideas, but nope; their imagination is limited by 9 year old PS3 technology.

Our aim has always been to develop the game to the PS3's standards, so that players can have the same limited PS3 experience across ALL 3 platforms!

If you bought a PS4, or a beastly PC, I'm sorry.

No, I'm not sorry! Look forward to your PS3 Game!

With all this talk of innovation they should just accept the fact that they made a mistake by promising the release on PS3 many years ago, and give a discontinued PS3 service date for people to save up and buy a PS4 or PC.

There are so many aspects of the game that are being cut short or half assed in imagination because of the 9 year old, out of date, flat line technology.

And it's not really holding the game back. Not yet. Sure, the PS3 has to have less UI elements on it, and key UI elements have to be seriously considered before added to allow PS3 users to have a similar experience as PS4 and PC users.

But Yoshida did say that, if the development have an idea and they discover that adding that into the game is being hampered by the PS3, then they will stop supporting it and continue on with their development of that idea. They won't let the PS3 stop them from adding in something big and new. The key is "big and new". Adding in TP bars or something isn't really "big and new" and is something they'll do now/in the near future if they can. Otherwise, we'll have to wait until that "big idea" comes along to push the PS3 out of the game.

FFXIV is moving toward DX11 with DX9 in different package by 3.0.

So if those who said PC players will argue that PS4 is limiting them. Maybe but we are getting a different package of optimization soon. I am not against PS4, it's just when I have decent PC. There is no point of getting PS4 at all. Yet people will call me oh PC Elitists... >.> really. Why can't they be more logical?

Btw as for PS3 kept asking how is really different compare to newer generation hardwares (PS4/PC). PS3, you would not be able to see much characters on screen.

They are, but even if they weren't developing for PS3 we'd probably have the same size areas because they had to pull a remade MMO out of some recycled 1.0 assets in two years time. That isn't much room for world crafting at all, which is probably why some areas of ARR look a tad rough.

I'm somewhat hopeful they add some visual TLC to the original zones when Heavensward lands. If Heavenwards' zones have a focus on wasting time flying your mount between islands (and I fathom we'll have zero vertical control just to limit our movement/what we can see), they could cheat it some by making you cross gaps to load out/in new assets so that the PS3 can bear the load.

Doesn't even really matter since Matsui's team already added ally-wide MP/TP display across all platforms, amongst many other little QoL adjustments (such as macroable gearset swaps and map icons, vanity system, etc) that game could have used a decade ago. The old XI crew for its first decade just seemed anti-anything that involved touching the interface side of things. They were content creators first and foremost.

Glad to see after over 11 years they start doing this. Better late than never, but too little to late for me.

Yeah, whichever it is about PS3. PS3 is outdated no matter how much you defend it. We are in 2014 soon 2015. It is almost a decade of technology to compare with.

Upgrading to PS4 is your best moment right now.

After finally biting the bullet and getting a PS4 a month ago, I can say without a doubt that the PS3 was holding back so much of this game that I didn't even know was there. The level of details, seeing full-frame animations, seeing the population of people running around and not having any frame-rate slowdown, it honestly refreshed this game for me as if it were brand new. I even had an SSD installed in my PS3 to help nudge it along (which I transferred to my PS4), I have practically zero load times. SE did a good job even making this game playable on the PS3 (which I wont get rid of because of the $$ invested in PSN downloads >.>), but, seriously, try this game on a PS4 just once, you will never look at the PS3 version the same.
