People could play on the PS3 until they die; not a good answer.

It's NOT possible for the PS3 to handle physic-based gameplay. Oh wells, too bad for ALL of you! Muawhahaha!

So basically we are going to sit on our hands and wait for either the players or our competition to light a raging fire under our you-know-what-I'm-talking-abouts, to give YOU a better game.

Who woulda thunk it. The players would be impressed by their innovation and ideas, but nope; their imagination is limited by 9 year old PS3 technology.

Our aim has always been to develop the game to the PS3's standards, so that players can have the same limited PS3 experience across ALL 3 platforms!

If you bought a PS4, or a beastly PC, I'm sorry.

No, I'm not sorry! Look forward to your PS3 Game!

With all this talk of innovation they should just accept the fact that they made a mistake by promising the release on PS3 many years ago, and give a discontinued PS3 service date for people to save up and buy a PS4 or PC.

There are so many aspects of the game that are being cut short or half assed in imagination because of the 9 year old, out of date, flat line technology.

I think people are confused about what "dropping support" means. Dropping support does not mean, "you can't play the game on this platform anymore." Dropping support means "you can play up until a certain point, but after that expansions and client features added will ONLY be available for X and Y players. You will not have access to these features/gear/level cap increase/quests/etc."

It's not always hardware/software limitations that come into play. It can also be population that devs use to decide if they will drop support for a certain expansion/update. For example, the playerbase of FFXI utilizing PS2 outside of Japan is so small, there would be no financial gain to releasing an expansion for those people. If I recall, the latest expansion was not available to FFXI PS2 users outside of Japan for this very reason, and it was also the last expansion to be available to PS2 users in Japan. In essence, SE has "dropped support" for PS2 because now features will be limited for those who continue to play on that console.

The zone sizes are definitely affected by this.

Even if the zones were bigger would SE utilise exploration as gameplay meaning you'd actually have to be afraid of free roaming mobs?
That sounds exciting but I'm afraid SE has only heard the part "we want bigger zones".

I don't think bigger zones by themselves add that much to the game if their size isn't used as a tool for level design.

They are, but even if they weren't developing for PS3 we'd probably have the same size areas because they had to pull a remade MMO out of some recycled 1.0 assets in two years time. That isn't much room for world crafting at all, which is probably why some areas of ARR look a tad rough.

I'm somewhat hopeful they add some visual TLC to the original zones when Heavensward lands. If Heavenwards' zones have a focus on wasting time flying your mount between islands (and I fathom we'll have zero vertical control just to limit our movement/what we can see), they could cheat it some by making you cross gaps to load out/in new assets so that the PS3 can bear the load.

Doesn't even really matter since Matsui's team already added ally-wide MP/TP display across all platforms, amongst many other little QoL adjustments (such as macroable gearset swaps and map icons, vanity system, etc) that game could have used a decade ago. The old XI crew for its first decade just seemed anti-anything that involved touching the interface side of things. They were content creators first and foremost.

Glad to see after over 11 years they start doing this. Better late than never, but too little to late for me.

On the PC version, under system configuration, there is an option to toggle various display settings to allow the game to run depending on your hardware. That's how you get around "hardware" limitations! You make the game scalable so it can run on a wide range of hardware.

As for the zones in the original FFXIV, they were huge and uninteresting, with almost no variety. One part looked like all the other parts. And getting from one place to another was AWFUL! No one wants big uninteresting zones. That's why they broke each area up, giving each area it's own memorable touch. You have Middle La Noscea with it's Skylift! Lower La Noscea with it's Salt Strands! Central Shroud with it's Sanguine Perch!

I remember Playing in the alpha and beta, early access and maybe about 6 months of 1.0. When you say "You have Middle La Noscea with it's Skylift! Lower La Noscea with it's Salt Strands!" It's funny because to me The zones in FF XIV ARR are worse then anything in the 1.0 version, even with the copy and pasted environments. You see, i found in 1.0 you felt like you were in a vast world. I remember taking the boat to Limsa, walking from Ulda'h to camp tranquil, Running out of anima and looking around for a teleport. Although the zones were empty, i feel and the sense of exploration was there. Places were dangerous, you walk around the wrong corner and bam, your dead. My personal opnion is when you buy and MMO you expect to be engulfed in the world and all it's wonders. Now my personal opinion is 1.0 had that feel, ARR isn't even close. It's kinda funny how in the early stages of 1.0 there was literally nothing to do besides leves, yet the world still engulfed me. Now we have ARR there is alot more to do in the open world, yet it fails in all attempts to engulf me. Personally i believe many hardcore players think what I'm about to say " ARR has one of the worst open worlds I've ever seen in any MMO" if they don't then i guess it's just me.

I don't like so much the attitude of "my console/pc/whathever" is master race, and your one needs be trashed.

The only PS3 limit that XIV almost reached is the number of objects that may be displayed at same time, and this is the only thing I know is confirmed, you can check the thread talking about the visualization of the TP bar.

All graphical differences some of you provided, are only rendering differences of the same object, and it is quite pointless (and so much obvious) to say an 8-years old graphic hardware is less 'cool' than 2014's one. If now you play on better hardware does not means the world must trash the old one and make the game matching all the bells of YOUR hardware.

SE already stated they will think about PS3 when it will be the time it really makes not possible to do some things they want to do for the game. There is no need to bash something you hate because you hate.
