    Dev response on tackleboxes

Looks like we finally got a response, but it's probably not what we wanted.

Q19: Are there any plans to implement an inventory specifically for fishing lures/bait?

A19: Unfortunately, it is very difficult to add inventory. In order to add inventory, we will need to increase the character data and if the character data is increased, more data must be transmitted to the servers. This may cause increased loading times when you move to a different area as well as lag.

We are very much aware of the inventory issues caused by fishing lures/bait so we are currently looking into ways to alleviate the problem after the expansion is released by decreasing the type of lure/bait used in the new fishing spots and making the item management aspect of the retainer more user friendly.
I love that the solution for anything with fishing seems to be, "Hmm... Let's just dumb it down some more." And what the heck does item management on retainers have anything to do with it? I have no problem storing my lures/bait on my retainers right now, the problem is that I don't want to because I want my lures/bait with me at all times.

I guess you'd and ability that lets you access a specific retainer tab (lets just say tab 1) no matter where you are in the world. Maybe for a small gil fee when the ability is used. Fishers would put their lures there.

( I dont fish so I don't know exactly how much room is needed for lures, sorry if my number of accessable tabs is too low)

Yeah.....except the fact that there will still be fish in the pre 3.0 era that people will want to fish to desnyth for cosmetic items, so their fix doesn't really fix anything. Also new players will have the same problem with the quests leading to 50/big fish quest.

I never thought I'd be saying this, but Yoshi do you even fish? lol

    The inventory struggle is real.

Being prepared for most anything, and avoiding overlapping functions, it can be kept under an inventory page. Barely. Not always.

once you caught everything you'll only carry 3 to 5 different lures with you anyway, because most of the fish arent worth to catch them
ninja betta, titanic saw, emperor and the two which are required for popping the S ranks: thats all I aim for from time to time

I usually have around 25-30 things in my inventory and even during fishing progression when I carried 20-30 different baits with me I never had issues with free inventory space (40-50 slots left all the time)

Inventory management is a large part of any RPG. I carry as many as 35 different baits/lures on me at all times, and inventory is not an issue for me at all. Maybe you guys just carry too much other clutter? A lot of the bait is very cheap and can be thrown out and purchased as needed.

If we fishers were given a tacklebox, it'd inspire a torrent of rants from other, non-fishers about how we've been given extra stash space. Screw the tacklebox!!! Give us a damned net so those freaking fish stop getting away!!!

There are 46 different kinds of bait (thankfully no HQ versions, just NQ). Most of them are needed as the ideal bait for catching one kind of fish or another.

This is certainly true - but the point we're trying to make is that FSH is the ONLY job in the game that requires 30+ additional inventory slots just to function effectively. Any other job only requires a few slots for food and meds. FSH needs those slots, too, AND 30+ more for bait. Can we free up the inventory? Sure. Should we have to? No.

FFXI had this problem, too, for the BRD, NIN, and COR jobs. Each of these jobs had huge inventory requirements (multitudes of instruments for BRD, ninja tools for NIN, and elemental cards for COR - and heaven help you if you played all three jobs), and SE's eventual solution was pretty much the same for each: create multipurpose instruments, tools, and cards. It seems that they'll be doing the same, here.
