Raid Etiquette?

Hey!
So I just... participated in my second raid. (Ever. *Total MMO newb*) And I noticed during the missions that there is a "loot" icon at the bottom right. Click on it and it'll say "need this!" or "greed" or "pass." So the first raid I clicked "greed" and the second raid I clicked on "pass."

Do all players get to loot the same chest? If not, how is acquiring the booty decided?

Lastly, I notice that everyone seems to hang around at the end of the raid. I'm always the first person to leave (because I'm an awkward duck, yenno?). So is there something we're supposed to wait for that I'm missing? Aside from the loot?

yeah every1 will roll on the items in the chests after each boss and generally ppl will hang around for a little bits in the hopes of gettin a commendation at the end of the fight from others in the group :3

It didn't seem like anyone articulated it yet. When you press Need or Greed a number between 1-99 is generated. Like rolling a dice.
Highest number wins, however any number in the Need section will always trump the agreed section.

You can see your number over the loot icon after rolling.

It's always better to raid with a group of friends, otherwise the DF people will either completely ignore your request to not roll on the item, or win it and leave right afterwards. They won't even commend you if that happens. Good luck though!

u forgot to mention u dont get commendations with premade groups tho so if want the mount have to risk df runs n hope for them :P

Loot is rolled on by members of the party, which doesn't mean much now, but when you get to 50 and start doing 24-man content, those dungeons will have a separate chest and drop for each party, and you're only rolling against your party. Generally, if you can need it, need it, otherwise feel free to greed. If everyone agrees to do something else, that's fine, but don't be afraid to roll on things you could use.

Let's say you have a 4 person party. If all 4 choose greed the highest roll gets the item. If two people choose greed and two choose need then only the people who chose need roll for the item. Pass means you don't want the item at all. Need means you actually need the item to use. Like a white mage rolling on a ring with mind and piety. Greed means you don't actually need it, but you want it anyway, maybe to break it down for materia or sell it or something.

Be aware that static groups (players who agree to party exclusively with each other to clear content at scheduled times and days) may have a hierarchy or precedent for who gets gear. Just ask beforehand if there are any rules for loot and you should be good. Most groups will be fine if you need on something you can use though.
