I'm mostly happy with the direction FFXIV has gone in regarding armor coverage...A great deal of the armor is very practical, and most of the skimpy stuff is that way for both genders. It's a far cry from my experience with other MMOs, where not only was female armor typically more revealing, but also far more detailed, so that it was actually pretty hard to make a male character look halfway decent, let alone sexy.
The only change I'd make to FFXIV's armor design is to add a toggle between 'normal' (i.e 'male model') and 'sexy' (e.g 'female model) modes for items with significant differences. This way you could choose whether you want to see your dragoon's midriff, and whether you want to be wearing a miniskirt (Short-shorts for guys?) or actual pants and so on.

Why can't guys wear skirts? The only change I'd make to FFXIV's armor design is to add a toggle between 'normal' (i.e 'male model') and 'sexy' (e.g 'female model) modes for items with significant differences. Also, so what if the female armor has boob windows? There are male pieces of clothing that are just a set of pendants, or that show the ENTIRE chest.
As far as MMOs go, FFXIV is pretty equal as far as ridiculous armor designs for both genders. People complain about the window on the dragoon armor without realizing they shouldn't be able to sit down in the damned things.

I just... I just want dragoon AF that covers my belly ._. I would glamor that instantly if I could.
I don't see the issue. The only reason for a female miqo'te to exist is to satisfy fanservice. It's pretty much a species engineered for that sole reason.
Developer 1: "Hey, let's put a catgirl race in the game, but let's NOT make it fanservice!"
Developer 2: "what"
too bad Developer 1 was probably Yoshida and Developer 2 some peon.

Correction: Developer 1 would be Tanaka, as he created Mithra on FFXI, and the Miqo'te are our version of FFXI's Mithra.I don't see the issue. The only reason for a female miqo'te to exist is to satisfy fanservice. It's pretty much a species engineered for that sole reason.

Except that both are catgirls, there are not many similarities.
It could be something like: "FF XI have catgirls. Let us put also catgirls into FF XIV. A different type of catgirls"
So long it have no edge in the middle that would kill her if she fall.Female plate armor needs to have breast size meshes added to the chest area (But lacking the breast physics due to it being plate armor.) Why? Because all I think about when I see a huge busty female in tight plate armor, is them holding their breath, and feeling uncomfortable whenever they take a step.

Are Roegadyn not that similar to Galka?
Are Lalafell not that similar to Taru Taru?
Are Elezen not that similar to Elvaan?
Bit disingenuous to claim that they aren't based on Mithra when every race in this game is based on a corrollary in XI
Miqo'te are just Mithra with a higher polygon count.

I was rather disappointed with FFXIV's "A different type of catgirls", to be honest. Mithra were a lot more beastial, and gave a real feeling that they are a different race than humans. They had catlike noses, blunt fingertips that hinted at retractable claws, a battle posture that had them hunched over like some kind of predator, and orange skin or fur (arguing whether it actually was skin or fur was the source of many a flame war; some folks are REALLY sensitive about the possibility of being seen as a "furry").
Miqo'te, on the other hand, are stock-standard anime-style catgirls; perfectly human in every way, but with a couple of cat parts slapped on. Kudos to SE for giving the male Miqo'te an animalistic sitting posture (and for having catBOYS in the first place!). I was quite disappointed, and it's a large part of the reason I decided not to roll as a Miqo'te even though I spent ten plus years as a Mithra in FFXI.
