Returning player in need of advice please

    Hi all

I really want to switch my main class from archer/bard to conj/white mage. Obviously I used a lot of quests leveling archer so now I'm left wondering how to level conj far enough to take over the main storyline.

Archer is level 32 but conjurer is only level 16 atm. Very confusingly I was leveling most classes and I have quests for all sorts of different classes at different levels.

    1. How do I level my conjurer from level 16 to 32 to take over the storyline?
    2. Where would be best area to do so considering the archer class used all available quests in Gridania?
    3. Is it possible to remove individual quests from showing on the UI without abandoning them, so they still remain on the journal?
    4. How on earth do I manage all the gear she is carrying and leave space for new drops?

Any other advice would be welcomed
    Thanks

    1. The easiest way to level is to complete duties. Low Level Duty Roulette as CNJ should net you a level or two upon completion each day, which will be a huge step towards it. Dungeons also give the fastest EXP in general, and to top it off as a healer you should have fairly short queues. In addition, as a healer, the more practice you have as part of a party, the better - in a lot of cases the group lives and dies based on your performance, because if you can't do your job as a healer while dodging AoEs and die, then nobody gets healed. Low level dungeons are fantastic practice for this.

Past that, you can look for sidequests, but it'd be easier to do Levequests or spam FATEs. For FATEs, the usual locations are Western La Noscea in the 10-20 range, and South Shroud for the m~20-30 range. You can also do Guildhests - the first time you complete them as a specific class you net a nice EXP bonus.

    2. As far as sidequests go, don't worry about having exhausted them as Archer; Most of the Gridania-specific quests would be for level 1-15 anyway. There are a similar set of quests in La Noscea and Thanalan, but they're intended for lower-level classes and wouldn't be much help to you if you're already CNJ 16.

    3. I believe so but I forget how.

    4. If you're only levelling your second class this legitimately shouldn't be a problem yet. Either way, to be honest, one thing you'll learn is how redundant a lot of your gear is. There isn't a whole lot of need to keep around a full set of level 1-32 DoW-specific gear, old weapons, etc. ; see if you can Convert some of it into Materia (you probably can, and Materia can fetch decent cash on the market), or sell a lot of the excess. If you've got pieces you really want for cosmetic purposes later keep 'em, but yeah.

    3. when you open your journal there is a box to the right of each quest, select up to 5 quests you want to see on your UI and they will stay there until complete or the box is unmarked

I forgot all about roulette. I don't think I'm anywhere good enough for dungeons yet. I've not played healer before so very much feeling my way here. It's something I've always wanted to do. I have healed at a few fates. First time it was just to see if I could manage to keep the 3 other people that were there alive well enough (not in a party, so just clicking on their names in the UI) and really enjoyed the feeling of helping others. I was well surprised when I got credited at the completion of the fate! I hadn't realised I would get that. I'm thinking of trying the guildhests as a means of training too. Perhaps with a mix of the two I will eventually feel comfortable enough to try a dungeon or two

The problem with gear is very stuffed full bags due to carrying gear for almost every class. Also all the gear sets have been wiped for some reason so i'm having to slowly work my way through saving gear sets so I can swap classes easily. For some silly reason I started EVERY class last year. So now there's only one class missing, Rogue. Out of all of those classes it's conjurer I like most with maybe arcanist coming a close second. I do enjoy gathering too. Once I've narrowed down what gear I need I will have to go look how to convert to materia, I haven't a clue atm but I'm sure wiki will help there.

Thank you both for such good answers, you've helped a lot

The best is to start healing at low level dungeons, then you can adjust slowly. It gets more difficult later. For me, the easiests dungeon to heal are Tam-Tara or Copperbell Mines, so you could try those. Actually, a lot depends on party members (some constantly get in aoe or stand in poison >.<). If you really are afraid to go into dungeons first, try out guildhests. They are short and start at level 10 and first few are really easy to heal (and you get exp bonus for doing each first time with every class).

Yup. NOW is the time to start getting into dungeons and learning. Sastasha, Tam-Tara Deepcroft, Copperbell Mines, and most Hests (most!) frankly deal almost no damage (they can seriously be run with 0 issue without an actual tank), so the pressure's extremely low on you. You can get used to hotkeys for targetting/casting as a result, or whatever system you so desire. Ifrit, Halatali, and Toto-Rak are a 'mid tier' where you'll be a lot more active, but still shouldn't have a lot of pressure unless your team is really bad and taking craploads of damage. Haukke onwards will be starting to challenge you if you're new to healing (though they're nowhere near unreasonable), so you want the practice while you can get it!

The way to get good at healing (or any other role for that matter) in group content is by doing group content. If you can get a group of friends from your FC or linkshells to run dungeons together with you, then all the better. But just letting the other players in DF know you're new at the role is usually enough to encourage some consideration, like taking on a few enemies at a time rather than racing past to grab everything at once.

When you're first starting out and still getting the hang of things, it's ok to focus exclusively on healing, so that way you'll only need to target the members of your party (F1-F4 if you're on a keyboard. Up/Down buttons if you're using a controller. In either case, those are based on the order characters appear in your party list, so just keep watching the party list to see who's in need of healing.) You can heal the first trio of low level dungeons with nothing but a single "Protect" at the beginning of the run and then "Cure" on whoever's HP drops too low throughout the rest of the run. So while healing is certainly a very important role, it's not an overly complex one, at least not to start off with.

As you gain experience and confidence, you'll get better at gauging when heals are going to be needed and when you've got enough leeway to mix in some damage skills of your own. At that point, you can add in swapping back and forth between Cleric Stance for damage spells or turning it off to cast healing spells. Then as you move into the intermediate dungeons, there will be enemies that inflict poison or other debuffs that you'll need to remove with the Esuna spell. And you'll need to judge when to heal a single player with Cure and when the whole group needs a healing spell like Medica, or choose between Cure and Cure II based on how much MP you can afford to spend on them, and so on. So the role will rise in complexity as you move further into the game, but such complexity increases are gradual enough to allow for some learning runs.
