It's a treadmill MMO. The expansion will make the iLvl slate wiped clean by NPCs/quests giving gear at lvl51+ for free that stomps all over the existing top-tier.
Dungeon iLvl requirements should become a non-issue with that in mind.
This. It'll probably be like the beginning of 2.0 where everyone had to farm darklight and have at least a relic weapon before entering endgame content. So most likely i130 gear will become obsolete in early 50s. If they don't do this way, it'll create a larger disparity in player progress and some players will artificially fall behind especially among the newer players.

Exactly, a new player will be able to hit 50 then straight away start to level to the new cap. No farming of obsolete content required. tbh i'm expectinga revamp of the ilvls of gear also, that the power creep will be toned down. Based ona comment by Yoshii about how high ilvl is going.
I will bet gear will continue at the same rate it does currently pre-50; that the leveling gear will be i90-100 (due to ilevel requirements on current story dungeons like Snowcloak), current i120-130 gear will be entry level to Lv60 endgame dungeons, and that i140-150 gear will have a Lv60 equip requirement.
At least, that is what makes the most sense to me. There is ZERO reason for leveling gear to be starting any higher than current story missions require.
I'd like to have the ilvl requirement for Heavensward be on the low side. It would be a shame if all the content they added since ARR launched became obsolete once Heavensward drops.
Vertical progression is the absolute worst.
How is the vocal minority 'everyone'? I still don't see how iL130 is going to be the 'standard' when only the vocal minority has supposedly hit this 'golden' iL. This proposed iL minimum is currently only achievable by running Coil and farming Poetics. Given that, it's not hard to think that not everyone will hit that magic number when Heavensward rolls around. The only people who will meet/beat it are the No Life Kings. Setting the iL that high for the expansion is just a ploy to pad egos. That doesn't make any sense, by the time we get the expansion everyone will have i130 from FCoB/WoD and it will be facerollable easy on release, wouldn't you want a higher ilvl so it isn't facerollable easy on release and forces people to get better gear until the next major update?
While I share your opinion, I should point out that makes sense only if the 3.0 quest line is gated by the 2.1+ quest line. They could just gate it behind the 2.0 line (up to and including the fight with Ultima) and leave the rest of the primals as optional.I will bet gear will continue at the same rate it does currently pre-50; that the leveling gear will be i90-100 (due to ilevel requirements on current story dungeons like Snowcloak), current i120-130 gear will be entry level to Lv60 endgame dungeons, and that i140-150 gear will have a Lv60 equip requirement.

Agreed, except for the problem of how you jump from the story at the end of 2.0 to where the narrative has brought us by 2.5X. Players are going to need to see how Ishgard comes out of isolation, not just be dropped into it straight from Ultima. The story discontinuity would be horrid. This said, I imagine they will delete a lot of the fetch quests we currently have to speed up story progression.
