    MRD Advanced Job

    Either they're still confused about MRD themselves or didn't have enough time to name our advanced job. No problem, we'll take the time to think it up ourselves while we wait for SE to deliver the fate of MRD.

    In a way I was surprised how quickly and certain they were about GLA going to Paladin as a job only because I thought of it as a hybrid of GLA + CON.
    They have said the "hyrbid" jobs would come later like CON + THM = Red Mage.

    Anyways, if GLA can go Paladin then perhaps MRD would go Dark Knight.
    If not, then we're probably looking at something like a Warrior, Berzerker, Fighter, or Viking job.

    The way I'm understanding the Jobs is that you will get all your class abilities + be able to get specific questable Job abilities. Which sounds like it's going to suck till you do all those quests. But they said these quest abilities will make the job much more valuable in party situations and end game content.

    Given all that, this is what I'd like to see from a Dark Knight Job for MRD.

    Traits
    Higher HP
    Higher MP
    Higher Attack
    Less Defense
    Less Evasion
    Higher Magic Attack
    Higher Magic Accuracy

    Abilities
    Drain 2 (with AoE)
    Absorb All (ATK, ACC, EVA, DEF)
    Last Resort - Sacrifice Def for Atk
    Weapon Bash - Weapon Skill that Stuns
    Dark Wave - Cone WS with Umbral Damage, takes 10% of HP
    Sadist - Buff that absorbs mob's HP when hit (Like Stygian Spikes)
    Brainwash - Buff that causes next attack to recover MP (Like Bloodbath)
    Fear - Causes enemies to flee in terror

    I listed 10, but if we only have access to MRD abilities I hope there will be more.

    I actually believe its more possible of THM becoming DRK than MRD. But if they really add class combos for jobs (i hope so), i'd like to see these options:

    MRD + THM = DRK. Focused in fighting while taking power from dead enemies. For DRK i already even suggested an WS that would be the coolest thing in a game where you can violate dead corpses like you do here...an AoE WS that deal tremendous damage but that can only used in dead monsters...can you see the beauty of such mechanic? You actually would be using dead adds to deal damage to the other targets!

    MRD + CON = Viking. If you think PLD is the melee version of WHM and DRK is the melee version of sage, Viking is the melee version of BLM. Would be extremely fun to have a bulky BLM swinging an axe enhanced with elemental power and nuking if the target is too far.

    MRD + GLA = Temple Knight. That dude frrom FFT...the one that uses a bigass sword and is focused in incapacitating targets.

    MRD + PGL = Fighter. That classic job from FFTA serie. Specialized in high risk, high return battle.

    MRD + LNC = Who knows...they both don't really fit any other class...could be templar, but it has little to do with MRD...templar would be more like LNC + Time mage/THM

    MRD + ARC = Idk either...MRD + Musketeer could easly be soldier, with a gunblade, or cannoneer with a heavy bazooka-like weapon for heavy long range AoE damage.

    I was refering to here when you mad references to CON as BLM when its already been clearified that CON will be WHM and THM will be BLM.

    My point being that your post was a little confusing on this particular item.

    @ Holyomen I said for the reacord, I was stating it more as a point of clearification, I apologize if it read harshly, that was not my intent.

    To get back on topic I Think an even better job tittle for MRD would be Death Knight or Shadow knight, just because in my opinion they sound cooler.

    As someone mentioned the bard issue earlier, I really wish they would lay it out there and give us a round about idea of what they expect out of each job, I have been a bard in every MMO I play and I would like to know for certain what class I need to level in preperation for that. At least I would like to know if we will have a class that will be a MP regen battery type class, as I think It would be a strong option also.

    One of my favorite Dark Knight/Shadowknight abilities was from a game on the PS2 call Champions: Return to Arms, it was a console version of Everquest.
    Shadowknights got an ability called Raise Army which would bring back the enemies you killed and they would chase down and attack any mobs on the screen.

    They weren't as strong after bringing them back from the dead and they would die quickly to bosses, but it was still a great and fun ability to watch them swarm everything. Once you got the ability powered up you could have like 20 of them all following you around ready to jump on the next mob you encounter.

    I honestly just hope we don't get pigeon-holed into a single job type. I loved playing DRK in FFXI, and think it would be a natural progression for MRD, but I think it would be better to have more than 1 option per class. I know a number of GLA's that would rather not be stuffed into a PLD job as their only option. Giving each class the option between offensive and defensive job builds would give unheard of flexibility in party building and dynamics.

    Of course, that being said, your OP makes a lot of sense to me! Here's kind of what I had in mind with each class when I began playing XIV. Of course, everyone's opinions on this will vary even after the jobs are actually announced.

    MRD==>Dark Knight
    GLA==>Paladin
    PUG==>Monk or Ninja
    ARC==>Beast Master
    LNC==>Dragoon
    CON==>White or Red Mage
    THM==>Black Mage or Summoner

    @ Holyomen, For the record, Chapions of Norrath, and Champions: Call to Arms were not Console versions of Everquest. Everquest was an MMORPG and its PS2 console verion was Everquest Online Adventures (EQOA), the first true console MMO. Both "Champions games were smply local, single/multi player rpg, not mmorpgs.

    That being said, I think we are geting ahead of ourselves here. SE doesn't even know what master classes MRD will get beyond the first on they are talking about adding soon for al classes. One and only one for now. Also, I see in above post, someone mentioned conj being mixed with mrd to make X, implying that conj will be blm which makes no sense. Devs did say first round, what all the master classes or jobs would be, the simply named them but never said specifically which job will be what class. If you think thm will get whm and conj will get blm you must be playing a different gam, or the comment wasn't thought out real well. thus @ Lienn when you said

    Made no sense with THM being black mage. I think you mean this to be conj+mrd here.

    Anyway, fr now I would just stick to the 7 jobs that the devs mentioned would become a master class for what we have now, and create an idea of which job goes to which class for certain first, then try to defin it. Especially before we try to esign every class hybrid combo into a job.

    Wow, I really didn't think anyone would bother to make it a point, but I should of said Champions was a console game based off of EQ. Never said anything about it being an MMO, but I guess you were trying to prove something.

    Errr...well, "MRD + CON = Viking" already is using "con+mrd"...i even doouble checked it to see id i mistakenly wrote THM instead of CON but found nothing...no idea where you saw THM reference there ^^:
