[Suggestion] lay of the land (and similar skills)

Higher ranks of this skill, such as Lay of the Land III, should also tell you the distance and direction of grade 1 and 2 deposits, instead of having to keep the low tier skills on your bar. Higher rank skill like Prospect III already perform this task.

It used to work like this. I don't know why they changed it. It was fine as it was.

I guess, my question would be, why would you want to know this? The grade 1 and 2 deposits are going to be quite far away from where you are in grade 3. Do you really want to be harvesting in Horizon and be told that there are grade 2 trees all the way over in dry bone?

It used to be that lay of the land worked like the grade it was in. So if you were in a grade 1 zone and used lay of the land 4, it would act like lay of the land 1 and tell you the direction of grade 1 points. Now it doesn't, and you need to equip all 5 versions of it instead of one.

exactly Rylock, its a pain to have to equip all 5 versions especially since they all share a timer

I actually hadn't even remembered that until you mentioned it, Rylock. Makes sense. So I guess the solution would be to have just a single ability that reveals all the grades you are at a level to sense. Still, I don't like the idea of that extra spam personally.

You wouldn't notice a difference. Using Lay of the Land IV in grade 3 used to work exactly like using Lay of the Land III. Using it in any other grade or non-grade would work as it does now and how it always has.

You would not sense grade 1 or 2 in a grade III area because of the 'area boundary'. You do not see any loading when you cross it, but you can tell it is there when you are following behind someone and they suddenly dissapear off your screen and mini-map. Those boundaries prevent you from sensing grade 1 or 2 using grade 3 sensor. Also you would not sense grade 2 if you are in a grade 3 area. Thus, no reason to have you keep multiple skills on the bar when the higher should also sense the lower when you are in those lower areas

Really? Because I do seem to remember a time where you would get multiple lines for different grades when using it. I may be remembering a time from the test phase of this game when grades might have been intermingled. Like way back when using arbor call would make you fall into the world. I'm not sure though and starting to get confused.
