Steam version subscription.

OP is saying the friend bought the game on steam, and the steam version can use either steam wallet or mog station.

However, as far as i can tell, all subscriptions are handled through mogstation, you just need to add an active subscription to the account.

This is because he is accessing the mog station by clicking on it from the game launcher, which sets a cookie telling mogstation that the page was open from the steam version of the launcher.

Was having the same issues - wouldn't show me any option other than steam wallet option to pay for subscription. Problem wasn't the browser I was using, but rather the method I got to Mogstation. In short - do NOT use the Account link/button on FFXIV launcher, just get to it by Googling for Mogstation. The Account link on the launcher specifically tells Mogstation that you are a steam user and cripples your list of payment options.

If you logged in by using the Account button on the launcher, make sure to logoff, close ALL browser windows/the browser itself, then open browser of choice, Google it, then login again. All the regular options should then show up. At least it did for me... on Firefox and IE11.

Thank you!!! this is the solution to his problem.
He was using the Steam FFXIV clent link, not looking it up via browser, he can now see ALL the options not just the one steam wants him to see.

So thank you!
He can now happily sub (kinda having to pay euros in australia so not as happy as we would like) and keep playing.
