The old content is going to get nerfed. This is a fact of life. This is always how things happen in MMOs. They want people to move on to the newer content. To do so they will have to take steps to help push players to that goal.

Does this mean that the old totally upgraded relic will be required for the expansion relic? Not necessarily. Honestly, it would make things much easier if they didn't; for both the players and the development team.

Expect them to make changes across the board to the game to help struggling players and new players get to the expansion content quicker.

What a crybaby you are, why should lvl 50 content have any bearing on lvl 60 content from an expansion? The later you are to an mmo, the more older content becomes irrelevant, thats how it is.

I think that this is the reason why with, WoW for example, they tended to speed up leveling whenever they brought out a new expansion. Pretty sure when they raised the level cap to 60 they reduced the xp needed to get to 50. This way returning players, as well as new players, could get to the newest content as quickly as possible.

Another reason, is that with the new content means that the older areas will be less populated. Once the expansion comes out, how many people do you think will be in the starting areas? How many people do you think will be doing the low level dungeons? How many people do you think will be doing the relic quests?

I have no doubt that when the expansion comes out that the same thing will happen as when the game launched itself again. People will find the quickest way to level, it will still probably be fates, and they will flock to it by the masses in an attempt to get the the max level as soon as possible.

Ppl can grind fates to 50 today... do you really want it easier than that?

As a WoW player, I can definitely say that this was not the case, at least for the release of TBC (their first expansion). However, the grind to level 60 (cap for classic) was atrocious because of the lack of quests. It was still easier to get to lvl 60 after TBC because you could access new areas at level 58 and have a flood of quests for exp. It was made easier on the second and espically the third expansion to catch up the previous level cap and get into the new content.

In WoD, you'd only get a character to level 90, which was the cap for MoP. All this really does is let you get into WoD content as soon as possible, making it feasible for new players to join in if they were newly invited, or for veterans to create new characters on another realm with their friends.

But you are definitely right in the "if its new, it'll be fast" quip. This was the case for ninjas with FATE trains, and espesically the case for the Sexus grind when it came out. Have fun finding a party for sexus light farm or even finding someone that's still updating the bonus light window if you werent working on it the first 3 weeks after release.

An MMO should have content to last a while. What better than a lengthy grind that is the relic quest?

As it is called expansion, I suppose the previous content does not dissapear. New players, maybe with some changes, will start with level 1 classes with the existing quests, with new ones but not eliminating the old ones. Probably the relic quest will still exist, and all the upgrades. Why make playable content disappear?

Nowadays the relic quest can be done in a couple of days (compared with months one year ago), and the Zenith upgrade in a few days. The Atma, Animus and Novus still take time and work, but less than they did. Atmas drop is higher but still takes time. The books are much easier to buy but you still have to fulfil them. And Novus still needs the materia and Alexandrites. Nexus is still the last upgrade so it is still a very long grind.

Probably these last stages will be made easier somehow: atma and alexandrite drops, and nexus lights are easy to change, materia prices can go down maybe with retainers bringing a lot of materia, books made easier, etc. I don't think it is likely they will disappear completely, it is still content to do by new players, probably they just will make it easier so they don't take as many months as the original players needed and new players can eventually catch up.

I suppose the relics won't disappear and either will continue to get upgrades or will be substituted by some other quest that does not start from scratch but from the last relic step.

The image of the weapon I think just means there will be a relic upgrade after the Nexus, since it looks like a Curtana but is not the Curtana Nexus nor any previous one.

I spotted a few sarcastic comment trying to relate relics with coil while proclaiming to support the idea of ditching relic altogether. Quite funny really, how is the two even related ?

Guess it's true those "raiders" will do anything to belittle other people who don't belong with them just to boost their ego. This whole rubbish about "nerf coil ditch relic" just sounds like a bad case of butthurt, really now.
